https://youtu.be/X5FlPN240kM For those of you who enjoyed this morning’s Canticle from the COS Virtual Choir, here is a peek behind the scenes of how recordings like this are made. Many thanks to Christopher Gravis, Canon for Music at St. John’s Cathedral in Los Angeles for publishing a look at how virtual choirs are assembled, piece by piece. You’ll also see an appearance from our semi-regular soloist during this period of online worship, Hannah Waldman, who happens to be married to Stephen Karr, the interim music director and organist. Hannah is normally a staff singer in the cathedral choir.

During this Holy Week in quarantine, you may be interested to take a listen to this new Passion oratorio, written by prominent American composer Richard Danielpour, who approached the narrative from a Jewish perspective. Interim Organist/Choirmaster Stephen Karr traveled to Buffalo last year to perform and record the piece as part of the UCLA Chamber Singers (along with a crew of amazing soloist and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus all under the baton of the BPO's longtime conductor, JoAnn Falletta). The recording is released as of today on CD, iTunes and all major streaming services.
