Growing up training in Martial Arts I trained in backyards, garages and basements. It did not matter if it was winter or summer, hot or cold no heater, no a/c and no training mats... just good old concrete or the earth beneath our feet. Being here in Lathrop, CA there are not many places to train and not many dojos within 10 miles built from the floor up with new mats, changing rooms and restrooms. All of that seems standard today but was a luxury from where I came from. T...hank you Sensei Jason for having a dream and a vision to open up such a place for a new generation to grow and train in our area. Dojos are not easy to start let alone thrive. I've seen so many martial arts schools come and go through the years and I'm glad to be a part of this one. GraduationDay is FRIDAY!! So let’s talk about our Seniors!! Aysia Cortez started at Life as a true freshman. There’s been an ongoing joke about this being her repeat Senior year, because instead of graduating a year early, she stretched things out a bit to stay with us one more season (and we are so grateful she did)!... Aysia’s college career was one that coaches look back on and use as a benchmark for all others. ALL THE GROWTH Not only did she grow and evolve into a powerhouse with a mean (legal) club, she also became a standout leader through her ability to juggle a hectic school/ sport/ work schedule, willingness to listen, and ability to communicate not just her needs, but her teammates’ as well. (And she was number one at asking for clearance on appropriate gas station prematch snacks, which is highly appreciated). Aysia’s time on the mat saw Mid-South Conference medals, 3 different weight classes (one by her own choice #neveragain), two national podium finishes (at NAIAs in 2019 and a bid to the consolation finals of WCWAs in 2020). As well as being a huge reason our team has placed at NWCA National Duals 4 years in a row and that we finished as Runner Ups for WCWA Nationals and took home a MSC title last year. Aysia’s willingness to be honest with her needs and the needs of those on her team helped propel the team forward. She was the first athlete to come to Coach Ashley and say that way of coaching doesn’t work for me, I need something else which changed the game, not just for helping her improve, but for helping the team be better and for coaches to be better. Honestly Aysia, what are we going to do without your physicality to set the tone? Without your amazing support on the side of the mat? WHO’S GOING TO TAKE CARE OF JULIA?!? Who’s going to laugh at Coach Ashley’s jokes when none else does or understand what do the thing means. Please come visit during club night so the newbies can learn what it means to step into a club and Coach Christian can cheer. Please keep pushing yourself to be your best and achieve your dreams and to stand up for what you need and what those around you need. We love you Aysia Good Luck! #Savage #classof2020

Those guys that know me, Friends and family, know the story...Exactly one year and five days ago my dad took a bad fall. Got misdiagnosed in the hospital he was in the hospital for 2 1/2 months They overdosed him with medications, pumped his back with concrete and two stainless steel rods with 10 stainless steel screws and two stainless steel plates. My dad today stands strong! He reminds me of Japanese Pine needles in the coat of arms of our art (Kenpo) because Japanese Pine needles stands for courage and strength in the face of adversity and despite of all odds were against him. My dad still stood strong mentally and physically to overcome what life gave him. I love you dad
