The Recreation Department was kind enough to provide our officers with goodie bags to hand out to kids wearing helmets and walking their wheels through the business district. The goodie bags have popcorn, treats and a coupon for the skate park. #positivereinforcement #greatjob #walkyourwheels #loveourcoronadokids

While you were sleeping... On Friday night around 11:30 pm, a patrol officer stopped a car on Fourth Street for a vehicle code violation. While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed a gun tucked in the pouch of the rear driver’s seat. The driver had two passengers, an 18-year-old in the front passenger seat, and another 18-year-old seated in the back seat near the gun. The investigation revealed that the gun had a loaded high capacity magazine, and the serial number had... been damaged/removed. The driver was cited and released for: Concealed Weapon in Vehicle Under Person’s Control. The man sitting in the back seat was arrested and booked into jail for 3 felony warrants out of Tulare County and charged with Occupant in Vehicle Causes Gun to be Carried Concealed and Altering or Destroying Serial Number on a Firearm. Great job night shift!

National Teen Driver Safety Week is October 18-24, 2020 This week - and every week, parents should have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. These rules address the greatest dangers for teen drivers: alcohol, inconsistent or no seat belt use, distracted and drowsy driving, speeding, and number of passengers. Facts about Teen Driver Fatalities;... *Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States, ahead of all other types of injury, disease, or violence. *In 2017, there were 2,247 people killed in crashes involving a teen driver, of which 755 deaths were the teen driver - a 3% decrease from 2016. Parents can be the biggest influencers on teens' choices behind the wheel if they take the time to talk with their teens about some of the biggest driving risks.
