It’s Holiday Pajama (or just regular pajama) Day! Best way to show up for therapy or end the work week is by showing up in comfy pajamas. Who’s ready for a nap? Grownups can take naps too, you know. Change Your Words, Change Your Mindset: Kids often say self-depreciating statements when things get too hard, but it’s up to us to help get them out of that negative self-talk. When a child says This is too hard, instead ask the child to say This is a good challenge for me! Then follow up with having them say Let’s see how I can figure out a way to solve this problem. Especially during these difficult times, children (especially those with special needs ), need us the most to help guide and empower them out of negative thinking. Pre-Writing Activity : One of our occupational therapists asked his 6 year old client to draw a picture of the therapist and this is what he produced [first pic]. He asked the child why does he [the therapist] looks like that, and the child said It’s cuz you’re Rapunzel. [The OT does not have long hair, nor a head with two sticks for legs, lol]. After strategies from a specific handwriting program were implemented in treatment, this child was able to draw the therapis...t with more proportional body parts [2nd pic, child’s drawing in black ink]. Understanding of one’s body proportions (and of others’ bodies) is one of the foundational learning blocks needed for improvement in handwriting. Need help with your child’s handwriting?
