It's beenafreakingweek. Month? Shit, let's just call it year. I had to dance it out tonight. Sometimes you just need to move the energy out of your body. I love teaching. I love performing. I love dancing. I love playing. I miss all of those things and sometimes it's easy to get stuck at my desk in my house trying to think and strategize my way around the obstacles being thrown at us. Or frankly just super depressed about what life is like in this country, living thro...ugh a pandemic with half of a country that doesn't heed science anymore, and watching democracy teeter, and still seeing the systems we live in continue to function exactly as they were made for the people they were made for and stepping on the rest. I miss feeling safe. I miss feeling stable (ish). I miss stages and dance partners and the new projects and challenges I used to get each week. I have new exciting challenges and changes on the horizon and I'm rolling with the punches. But tonight I just needed to dance it out. With unfettered movement. I felt a freeness in my body I have not felt in a long time. Letting go of things I cannot control but can fight. I lay on the floor of one of my happy places where so many feet have danced their first steps and so many laughs and smiles and cheers have happened and I just let myself enjoy the feeling and memories of my space. How's everyone doing? Remember weddings? I miss weddings. Truthfully I haven't had much time or gumption to be doin it for the 'gram. We are still working on bringing all of y'all back into the studio safely by pacing our re-opening, keeping an eye on the world, and balancing lots of postponed weddings with lots of couples waiting to see what this fall will hold, redoing our website and trying to figure out where the big plans we had for the future should go from here:) Are... y'all feeling energized? Do you just want to stay at home and eat donuts and Mari Kondo your house and start gardening? Are you writing the musical version of your life? Binging Netflix? I am REALLY proud and impressed with these two. Dom and Meghan are my first couple to complete their first dance via our virtual sessions! It obviously wasn't the same as being together in the studio but it was special nonetheless. I gained a lot of confidence in remote teaching this way and honestly, the virtual lessons have grown on me. I didn't know how I was going to teach lifts remotely (and safely) but these guys just crushed it. And now they're all ready for their big... day in August post deployment. To my couples who have been hanging with me virtually to prepare for your events that are still happening later this summer, thanks for taking this new world journey with me! Thinking 'bout "Sunday Funday" and since I've been digging through my old dance footage lately on spring cleaning, this is the fun that immediately came to mind. Most people when they get into partner dance only dance with other adults but I had the luck to dance with a kid- the energy and joy that comes from that is so unique and you won't know it until you dance with an excited one! This performance was Michael's first and we had SO MUCH FUN. I think I had been in the ball...room circuit transitioning from Argentine background for maybe 6-8 months or so when we were working on this- still so young, so fresh, so excited to be learning and working on a craft! (I still love learning more about my craft and working on it- just requires a bit more stretching and chiropractor visits these days- this was 12. Years. Ago. Where does time go???). SO PROUD of these guys for crushing their big surprise dance medley at their big day right before shit got crazy. It was so full of character and laughter. And even though they had VERY different feelings about dancing, I love finding routines that happily represent both personalities! You guys did so good! CONGRATS you two on your big day and happy marriage!!!

A) I miss dancing B) I miss dancing with my friends C) ya know what is so great about being close friends with someone you dances with for 10 years, even when you don't see each other for a long time in between? Dance partners is kind of like finding a romantic partner. There is an energy and a CLICK and a chemistry that happens with the ones you really enjoy moving with. Sometimes you just find someone whose touch and energy feels like it matches yours, they are good at sens...ing and anticipating what you need to feel good moving, and they move with you and offer energy in that same way. THAT is what makes a great lead. That is what I'm constantly trying to teach when I teach connection. This is my buddy David. We danced together first in 2009 or so (yesterday's video) and over the years when we get to get together to keep dancing, it always feels like a familiar friend. THIS is also what makes SOCIAL DANCING so FREAKIN SPECIAL. You still use connection in choreography but the magic of communication that happens in social dancing is WHY I teach:) I hope all of my couples can find this level of intimacy in their communication and I hope I can keep teaching it to you all soon. This popped up today in my feed and ahhhhh- memories. This sweet kid was a Dancing with the Stars obsessed student and I think he was 7 or 8 at the time he started dancing with me. He DEDICATED to his practice and I was always so impressed and reminded of the hunger I had as a kid to do the things I loved. This is us opening for the Dancing With The Stars Tour back in CT. This must have been 2008 or so. Ahhhh sweet youth. And I'll admit- while I HATE competition dancing, I LOVE performance and I do miss the costumes. Maybe I'll put one on to watch Netflix this week or something. Happy Saturday
