Meet Little Ricky the cat. He’s on his 6th or 7th life, for sure. Well-travelled and brave, he splits his time between #Sonoma as a #winecat , San Francisco and #Sausalito. He wants to meet #sukicat . . .... . . . . #fancy #kitty #Abyssinian #catstagram #catsofinstagram #winerycat #cats_of_instagram #fancycat #instacat #snazzycat #sonomacat #farmcat #huntercat See more
Visiting a friend’s new St. Augustine-area beach house. The gardens are wild, sand swept dunes full of life. Palms, grasses, Nesting sea turtles and wild grape vines! Not certain of its precise identification, but Vitus Cinerea Var Floridana and Vitus Rotundifolia ( #Muscadine) and Vitus Riparia are among the grape genus that grow wild in Florida. North America was called Vinland by Leif Erikson and his Viking explorers circa 1000. The first commercial North American grape vi...neyard was planted in the St. Augustine/ Jacksonville area in the 1550s by Spanish explorers. They used native Vitus Rotundifolia, as opposed to the standard wine grape Vitus Vinifera genus. It was a failed winemaking venture - too hot, muggy and wet in Florida and Vinifera is the genus to go, but I love that I stumbled upon this rich history from my hometown and while visiting a friend’s new home! The owl box is empty over the winter, as the three barn owls who were raised here Are now off to other locations. One is to clean the boxes over the winter so that adults have a clean house to return to in February/March in order to raise another batch!
