Apple is locking batteries to the iPhone Xs at the factory, so whenever you replace the battery yourselfeven if you’re using a genuine Apple battery from another iPhoneit will still give you the Service message. The only way around this isyou guessed itpaying Apple money to replace your iPhone battery for you. Presumably, their secretive diagnostic software can flip the magic bit that resets this Service indicator. But Apple refuses to make this software available to anyone but themselves and Apple Authorized Service Providers. -Sigh...

Hello all, In recent weeks you may have heard that there's been ransomware attacks on a wide range of computers, thanks to the WannaCrypt virus, which has resulted in lots of people seemingly losing their data forever. We're here to offer some tips and tricks to help you avoid this scenario. Ransomware encrypts your data and demands payment through an anonymous system (bitcoin) in order to get money out of you. Then the ransom-holder will - if they want to - give you the decr...yption key for the file. The most important thing to do if you find you are infected with ransomware is DO NOT PAY THE RANSOM. While it is possible for the ransom-holder to give you a decryption key, a lot of the time they just won't. Often they'll just ignore it or their system won't even take messages. Paying is NOT a guarantee that you can save your data. Instead, take the following precautions if you're infected: 1. Do *not* shut down your computer. If the ransomware is interrupted while running, it's harder to undo the damage it has done. It's imperative that you don't shut down or reboot. 2. Disconnect your computer from your network. If it's wireless, turn off your Wifi. If it's connected by a cable, unplug that cable from your machine. Viruses often propagate themselves over the local network when given the opportunity. 3. Give us a call at (760) 301-5317 so we can assist you further. We will make every effort to help you save your files from the encryption if possible. We don't charge for diagnostics and won't charge if we can't provide a solution of our own. If you're worried about the recent ransomware stories in the news and you want to be sure you're protected, your best bet to protect yourself is simply to back up your data to an external location as often as possible. Contrast provides subscriptions to the Carbonite online backup service that you can purchase for convenience. If your data is backed up, you don't even need to worry about whether or not it can be decrypted; in the event of a ransomware attack, you'd simply get the malware removed and restore the backup. Take care, use common sense and remember: if all else fails, we're here to help.
