Innovation is an interesting endeavor. Some people get it. They understand the hard work, uncertainty, failure, and imposter syndrome that defines much of what ...it means to create something in a new way that hasn’t been done before. Most others don’t, particularly those who are tied to the established way of things in old industries. The journey to create something new always has hurdles and disappointments. We’ve had projects fail and friendships/partnerships fall apart. But, for those who decide that they want to stick by it and believe there is a better path out there, the rewards can be phenomenal. At Conservify, we have worked hard to create tools around conservation technology that we knew were needed. We persisted, regardless of whatever was happening around us, because we knew this was important. We skipped paychecks and worked obscene hours to make things work. As we head into the end of 2018, fortunately all that hard work starting to pay off. We have built rich partnerships and funding relationships that will take us to projects on every continent during 2019 and 2020. By freely open sourcing all of the work we do, we have the ability to spread that knowledge further and scale out beyond what a tiny lab in downtown Los Angeles can do. All this is my way of saying that I am excited about what is coming up, and that I am happy to work with anyone and everyone interested in coming along on this journey. See more

If you would like to hear more about conservation technology and the work that we do, check out the wonderfully optimistic chat with the charming Alie Ward on her brilliant podcast Ologies. Each week she interviews another -ologist about interesting things about her work. Shah explained to her what conservation technology is and some of its exciting potential to change the world. In recent years, Jacob and I have been working hard on building conservation technology solutions for science and conservation partners who were interested bringing open source innovation into the work they were doing. These efforts have taken us to Subsaharan Africa, the Amazon Rainforest, Canadian glaciers, the Congo Basin, and many more exciting places to come. It all happens through Conservify, which was set up as a technology prototyping lab focused primarily on nature, wildlife, and the environment. This month, we were lucky enough to have some of Conservify's current and past work profiled in Raspberry Pi’s HackSpace magazine. Check out the link (pdf) for the full spread (pages 48-53: https://hackspace.raspberrypi.org/issues/10) or pick it up at your local news stand.
