The generosity shown by Mariposa residence during a crisis has always been amazing. Fires and floods, neighbors in need? Mariposa neighbors have it covered. A houseless crisis in California? Loss of jobs, evictions, lack of affordable housing locally? We have that too. Incredibly hard-working individuals in local government, non-profit organizations, volunteers, and faith-based community members, put in a tremendous amount of time and effort to do what they can to help. A big thank you to our friends and neighbors here in Mariposa who are thinking of others during the stress of, well, everything! We will get through this crisis, and the next one, just as we have before, with each other’s help and support. Thanks, Mariposa.

Several of our community friends and neighbors have dropped off much needed bedding, clothing, and hygiene items for the guest here at Connections. We have little storage capabilities at Connections so we ask that folks please call prior to coming by (COVID rules, no visitors at the shelter) and let us know what you wish to donate (966-2550). Small items, such as hygiene products (travel size soaps, tooth paste, tooth brushes, mouthwash, handy wipes, deodorant, combs, brushes..., feminine hygiene products, bath and hand towels, etc.) are always in need. Clothing, washed and in good condition (please, no torn, damaged, or stained items), shoes in good condition and books! We have a small library here that can always use books, magazines, movies on DVD (sorry, no VHS), and arts and crafts materials. Having to stay put and having limited or no transportation is that much more difficult for the houseless community. Having something to help keep minds off of the trauma, and stresses of their situation on top of pandemic stresses, is helpful in more ways than can be imagined. Bedding items, blankets, twin sheets, pillows, pillow cases and laundry bags and laundry pods can make a big difference as well. Again, please nothing damaged or stained. Thank you all for thinking, and caring for your neighbors in need!

The season of giving is alive and well. Just a quick post about recent feel good moments here. A neighbor of Connections who was homeless at one time in their life, purchased a hot meal to be distributed to our guest. Knowing that Connections does not have the faculties to provide food (food is provided by Mariposa Heritage House and each person can purchase food, using subsidies and gifts), this individual said this was an opportunity to not only show some love for those in... need, but to help out a local struggling restaurant by the purchase. This is Mariposa strong! Another individual asked how many folks were at the shelter, then promptly counted out $10 and $20 bills to ensure that every single person at the shelter got some cash to use for Christmas! Their generosity stems from sleeping under an overpass at one time in their life and knowing the very real struggle those who are houseless during the holiday season. These acts of kindness just reiterate that everyone has a story and that there is hope.

"Just because they're homeless doesn't mean they don't want to look their very best." For the homeless community of Skid Row, Shirley Raines and her team of stylists provide much more than a makeover...

I am in search of a fake tree to put up at Connections. I promised guests I would bring one, but unfortunately locked myself out of my storage room and cannot get to it. If anyone has a fake tree to gift, we would all be so appreciative. Thank you so much.

Looking to rehome this sweet little beauty, Reba. She is a 9 month old pit mix and is up to date on her shots as well as spayed. She is kennel trained and house broken, does well with other dogs, and is good with kids, although it is always best to keep an eye out. She is young and energetic and does not quite know how to calm herself down yet. But being she is so young, she is able to quickly learn especially if she gets proper training. (I also know the number of an excellent dog trainer, if this is desired). She is incredibly loyal and loving. All her essentials will be provided upon pick-up. Located in the Mariposa area. Please PM Sarah or call 209.966.2550 for more information on her.
