Yesterday I got a call that one of our favorite and longtime Connection family had passed away, Mr. Ed. For years Ed and Sally, or Granny and Grampa Ed would walk to the shop every morning for their morning coffee and two of any scones we had fresh that morning. Ed always had a story to tell, be it from his childhood, his time in the military, even his time with IID...but the most he loved sharing were those of the Rescues. Always a tale with a cautionary message, but he ...would deliver them in a way that would keep you engrossed til the end. Those of you that were blessed to know him, knew these past 3 years were tough...but every morning he’d show up to the shop with Sally and little Midge in tow, he’d look at me in a sly way and say with smirk, I’ve heard about you... and wave his finger at me. I’ve known Ed for years, would even consider him family, his grandson Ed and I became fast friends, best-friends, and when you meet a Goodell, you meet all the Goodells. He and Sally gave me one of my first jobs at the Book Nook when I was in High School, and I was hired on as one of the first Barista at Granny Grumps Espresso, one of the first Coffee Shops in the Valley. He always felt it important that everyone kept on learning, through trivia (question of the day) to history, to hobbies and craft...he always wanted people to keep on learning. Thanks Grampa Ed, for your stories and heart, and for never leaving home without a pocket knife...lol. The world lost one of the good ones. - Sam See more
