Just a reminder that tomorrow morning is our Windmill Park/Long Cyn Rd walk... AND it's the day after the time change so don't forget to set back your clocks. Please keep your dog controlled upon arrival. We may have some reactive dogs that don't do well without a proper introduction. See you all at 9am tomorrow morning.

Too hot for hiking right now but we can’t wait for the fall weather to cool down. The mornings are getting better so hopefully a morning walk is in the near future. Piper got to enjoy some time in Northern California. Hope you and your pups have found some adventures and areas to explore.

Thankfully we got our walk completed before it got blazing hot. Summer time is tough for group walks but we managed a nice easy path. Thank you to everyone for joining. Especially warmed my heart to see rescue dog, Dusty, start off shaking and scared and finish the walk prancing and happy.

**COPPER - PUREBRED CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL - looking for a home!** Copper is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, ruby in color, with a cute little white be...ard and chest. His birthday is March 19, 2019. He weighs about 20 pounds. He is neutered and current on all of his vaccinations. He is house trained. Copper is a very intelligent, energetic and curious boy. He loves to play and responds very well to love and praise. Like most Cavaliers, he likes to run after things and one of his favorite activities is to go outside to chase lizards. Copper learns extremely fast and knows several words, including outside, dinner, sit and down. Although he has used a crate, he is accustomed to sleeping with a human and is happiest when he is around people. Cavaliers are very dependent on human companionship and are prone to separation anxiety. Copper would do best in a household where his family is home most of the time and willing to spend some time playing, walking, training and giving him mental stimulation. Once he gets exercise and structure, he settles down nicely. Copper spent the first year of his life at the breeder’s and therefore, lacks some social skills. He LOVES his people although it may take him just a bit longer to warm up to strangers. A few treats and some patience and he will make friends. However, we would suggest that he is not placed with very young children or a very busy, social household as that may be overwhelming for him. Plus, he can be a little sassy with is family at times, barking for attention. His new family will want to curb that behavior with appropriate play and training. He gets along well with other dogs and would be happy to have a playmate. Although Copper’s family loves him very much, they realize that perhaps they weren’t the right match for him. Placing him into the right environment is very important to them so a re-homing fee as well as a contract that states he will be returned to them if things don’t work out are required. They want to ensure he has a loving, bright future in front of him. Copper will be spending some time at my training assistant’s house so we can further assess his personality and make sure we find him the perfect family. If you or someone you know are interested in Copper, please feel free to PM me.

A reminder that fireworks will get continually worse this week as we approach the 4th of July weekend. Things you should start doing RIGHT NOW... - Put a coll...ar and tags on your pet RIGHT AWAY! This is sooooo simple! Even if your animal NEVER leaves the house, just do it this week at the least! - Get your pets chipped. Contact your vet or a shot clinic to get in before the weekend. - Keep your pets inside from dusk till dawn. Be aware that at anytime a firework could go off during a potty break so... make it fast! - Give your pet extra exercise during the day! Tucker those suckers out! - Make a safe and comfortable place in your home for your animal to hide. Make sure there is a lot of comforting things for them. A dirty shirt of yours, their favorite toy, a dirty blanket of theirs. During the 4th... - Praise your pet and give them attention. DO NOT scolded them for being afraid. It will backfire on you down the road. They are scared for a reason and need you. - Make sure all windows and doors are safely secured. Try to keep your pets away from any glass as they are known to jump through it! -Don’t bring your pet to someone’s home for a party or have them around ANY fireworks! Not just for their safety but EVERYONES! Please remember... even if your pet is unable to escape your yard, leaving them outside is absolutely terrifying to them. It can cause permanent psychological damage. Please if you love your pets, be understanding and help them. Don’t leave them to fend for themselves during this very scary time. LASTLY... Like every year since SVMP started almost a decade ago, we will be here to help. If you find or lose an animal, send us a photo of the animal, the cross streets lost or found and your contact info. Stay safe everyone and please have compassion for your pets. PLEASE SHARE!

Hang in there everyone! You all know how much I love to hike and now I see so many families posting that they are out there trying to enjoy a little time with Nature as well. Although we can’t do any group hikes right now, I hope you are enjoying spending some time outside on the days where it’s not raining as well as time with your pups while at home. I think we will all be happy to close the gap on social distancing at some point soon and enjoy a group hike together aga...in. Stay safe, keep your distance on the trails and elsewhere and I hope to see you all again soon. Meanwhile... share a photo of what YOU and YOUR PUPS have been doing during the quarantine!
