Perfect weather for a little TLC work on this Tito Puente model , brass timbales and bell, bought and chosen in person at the legendary and now unfortunately closed Haight Ashbury Music Center in the late 80’ or early 90’. I miss those great afternoons going there and actually trying gear out before purchase: liking an instrument, and buying THAT instrument! I will post photos of the refinish result. In 1994 I was invited to a great gathering of Cuban and Bay Area musicians called "Afrocubanismo" to take place at Banff (Alberta, Canada)... I was officially hired as a translator for José Luis "Changuito" Quintana's classes, who I knew already since 1989. Every night after dinner, the jams at a stage located next to the dinning room will start. After singing many nights at those jams, I had the GREAT HONOR to be asked by Jesus "Chucho" Valdes to join Irakere and many guest... stars like 'Changuito", Regino Jimenez (RIP), Miguel "Angá" Diaz (RIP), Rebeca Mauleón, not to mention the entire "Muñequitos de Matanzas" crew. I was appointed to sing "El Guayo de Catalina", "Cha-Cha-Chá", "Bacalo con Pan" and close with "Xiomara" ... When it was time to get on that stage, I look around me and judging by the Band I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Gracias "Chucho" for the invite and thanks Chris Walker (El Flaco), for posting this video, other than the live recording that later came out under "Afrocubanismo Life at Banff", I did not have any other documentation of this ONE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY.
