From the desk of COMPUTER GUY L.A. 818-957-2955 Heat & Other Issues Everyone wants to have their computer running perfectly. A lot of time can be wasted trying to complete a task when your computer is not working properly.... One of the things that can cause computers to start to run erratically and freeze up is too much internal heat. Warm summer weather can aggravate this problem. The inside of the computer case gets hot, sometimes very hot, and too hot for the computer to operate efficiently. Computers have fans inside. Sometimes these fans fail or run too slowly. They also have vents to exhaust the hot air and either fans or vents can become clogged by pet hair, dust, etc. There are other things that can keep a computer from operating efficiently. These would include the usual like viruses and spyware. If your computer is doing unexpected things, there’s a possibility you have a heat problem or a virus. We can help you get your computer running perfectly again. Give us a call. We’re here to help. Sincerely, Norm Krauskopf Computer Guy L.A. (818 ) 957-2955

From the desk of COMPUTER GUY L.A. 818-957-2955 EZ Ways to Make a Computer Run Faster Besides virus removal there are other things you can do yourself that can boost your PC's performance. 1. Use a Disk Defragmenter only if your disk is not a solid state drive. When you add a file or a new program to a new computer, the hard drive is relatively empty so new data is saved to the hard drive in one area. When you need to use that information, the computer can quickly access it b...ecause it is all in one place. As you use your computer the files get scattered all over the hard drive and Windows has to actually scan the entire drive to find the one file that it’s looking for. This makes your computer run very slowly. Defragging your system puts all your files in the order that they should be for faster access. Windows has a built in defragmenter. 2. Get rid of spyware Spyware is software with malicious intent - by design; it does something bad to your computer. Usually, it gets installed without your knowledge. It sometimes takes advantage of the fact that most people click "I Agree" to software licenses without reading them. There are many good spyware removers on the market. Spybot is one, Ad-Aware is another. 3. Free up disk space A great way to make a computer run faster is to free up some disk space. Windows comes with a disk cleanup tool that helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you can safely delete without messing anything up, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files. I hope this is of help to you. Please do not hesitate to call if you need assistance. Sincerely, Norm Krauskopf (818) 957-2955, c (818) 726-1503 [email protected] or [email protected] See more

From the desk of COMPUTER GUY L.A. How to Correct a Continually Rebooting Computer How to Avoid Spyware Problems... Definition: Spyware is software that collects information about a person or organization without their knowledge or informed consent and reports such data back to a third party. Spyware can also terribly affect the performance of a computer and provoke crashes. A hacker can use this type of program to modify system settings, including security configurations, leaving an innocent user with limited control over their computer. The most serious consequence of spyware is identity theft, as the program can also be designed to collect every bit of vital information from a computer. The most irritating thing about spyware is how it got into your system in the first place. What is even more annoying is the fact that you probably got tricked into clicking a link to some program for it to get installed in your system. Maybe you opened spam email - sometimes that's all it takes. If you click on certain popup windows or if you were downloading some free utilities, toolbars or games, there's a pretty good chance it sneaked in that way. The Internet is full of free software that tempts you and when you succumb to it, it comes integrated with spyware. While no one's safe from spyware, there are some things you can do to avoid it in addition to having antispyware programs installed. Watch your email! If you don't recognize the sender, don't open the email or click anything in it. Only open email or download programs from Websites you trust. If you need help with this or any PC related problems please call me. Norm Krauskopf President Computer Guy L.A. (818) 726-1503 (818) 957-2955

A few rules for smoothly running computers, from the desk of COMPUTER GUY L.A. 818-957-2955 Always have good up-to-date anti-virus software. A good anti-virus program is memory resident, which means that it remains in memory at all times and scans incoming and outgoing emails. A couple of freebies that I recommend are AVG and Avast Anti-virus software. But there are many others out there.... Your computer should have an abundance of memory (RAM). The sweet spot for Windows 7 and 10 is 8 Gigabytes of RAM. This means the operating system will run under most conditions the fastest with the increased Gigabytes of RAM. Since your operating system, programs, anti-virus, printer and others stores in memory, get more memory (RAM). It is fairly cheap and an excellent investment since your productivity can improve by 10-20% easily. I hope this is of help to you. Please do not hesitate to call if you need assistance. From the desk of COMPUTER GUY L.A. 818-957-2955 Did you know: If you sell your computer or give it away the data on the hard drive usually goes with it even if you've "erased" it.... When you delete the data from your hard drive the data is STILL THERE!!!!! What happens when you format the drive or erase it the data is changed to a hidden state so it can't be seen, but it's still there. Tax records, résumés, photo albums--the modern hard drive can keep increasingly larger volumes of information for fast retrieval. But that can turn into a problem when it comes to effectively erasing these drives. That means that passwords, logins and other personal information could still be lurking on machines that have supposedly been cleaned. There are ways to handle this problem. One is to simply destroy the drive such as smashing it with a large hammer. But you can't reuse it afterwards. There are software ways to get rid of the data on the drives safely and completely. If you need help with this please call me. Sincerely, Norm Krauskopf, 3930 Park Pl #2 Montrose, CA 91020 818 957-2955 or cell 818 726-1503

From the desk of COMPUTER GUY L.A. 818-957-2955 Why do I need to backup my computer? ... Your personal data backup is the most important thing should be done and the one thing that is commonly forgotten. You store music, video, graphics, emails, documents, spreadsheets, etc. This data is stored in the hard drive and is not replaceable. It spins at about 7200 RPM (revolutions per minute) and contains your life. But what happens when that hard drive has crashed? Well, you can install a new hard drive, reload the operating systems and programs but without a backup your personal data will be lost. There are a couple of ways to solve this: 1. You can spend $1500 or more to recover the data from a data recovery service if the data is recoverable. OR----- 2. You can backup you data in the first place. This is much less expensive. For the easiest backups I strongly suggest an external hard drive or on-line backups or both. The external hard drives are usually about 500 gigabytes (gb) to 1 terabyte (tb). They connect to your computer via the universal serial bus port (USB). And---it’s relatively inexpensive. There are online backup companies like Carbonite.com and Mozy.com. Also make sure you have access to all the original CDs or DVDs that originally came with your computer. Or if they did not come with the system, like HPs or Compaqs, etc. use the on board disk creation utility and create those disks ASAP. With these discs you can recover the operating system and all the original programs that came with your computer. Please do no hesitate to call me if you need assistance. For all computer help, please call me at 818-957-2955. I have used the services of Computer Guy LA numerous times and have always found their services to be fast, efficient and friendly. Over the years I have dealt with several so-called 'IT Pro’s' that ultimately did not stand up to a basic knowledge test. Norm (at Comp Guy LA) is extremely knowledgeable on most any system operating, and speaks directly and intelligently about each not in a circle of obscure unnecessary n...onsense as I have found others to do. "They are very flexible (we have all had those emergencies when we need help immediately not next Tuesday after the 2nd Thursday of the next month right?) and their prices are extremely reasonable for the requested work to be completed. In my parents’ day I always heard in life it was important to have a good doctor, a good mechanic and a good attorney. In this technology driven age a new requirement is necessary a good computer tech. You can add Computer Guy LA to this list with confidence!! Julie B. Montrose. CA
