Feelin’ like Spring around here...
Beautiful day spent with volunteers from the Catholic Community at Stanford. Thank you all for your generosity in working our land, transplanting our lavender, prepping and sowing mustard cover crop over last year's strawberry block, and weeding and mulching. Great day on the farm with you all!
Got help with fence repair, clean up, mulching fruit trees, sorting irrigation parts and more today by the families from Coastal Haven. Thank you all!
It's morning! Look out!
We welcomed 40 new girls to the farm this weekend. Getting them acclimated and enjoying the antics as they sort out who’s living in which coop.
"We couldn’t have predicted the challenges we would face in the year 2020. The difficulties we collectively endured were very revealing about where we are, how our food system works and how important access to locally grown foods truly is...Let the diversity of our growers remind us of what we know as ecologically-minded farmers and gardeners: life is richer, safer, more abundant and more beautiful with diversity." -Tom Stearns, High Mowing Organic Seeds Thank you to all our customers, volunteers, donors and supporters who helped us through the 2020 season. We did it together! - The Common Roots Farm Team
As the sun sets on the surreal year of 2020.
Happy Holidays everyone
Masked up and ready to help, we had wonderful volunteers prune back ALL of our raspberries! Thank you Stanford Catholic Community for your ongoing support of Common Roots Farm
Summer the farm dog. Guardian of the...??? Warm spot on top of the clean chicken bedding? It’s been cold ‘round here.

Cover cropping continues with oats and field peas
Farmer Nina prepping beds for cover crop mix of rye, oats and legumes. Roots will feed our soil, reduce erosion and loss of nutrients, and fix nitrogen naturally to feed next spring’s crops. Beautiful weather this week, too!
And now, for something lighter. This sassy pepper was found in our field yesterday. Caption, anyone?
Our native hedgerow is putting on a show. Thank you to farmers Thomas, Ryan and Ezra for keeping these beauties watered til they've gotten established. Great habitat for beneficial insects.
Thank you to Santa Cruz Waves for telling some of our story in this month's issue! Big shout out to Nina, Lori, Eric, Carson and Matthew, and all our volunteers, for holding us together in this crazy season. See the Food section for article entitled "The Little Farm That Could" https://issuu.com/santacruzwaves/docs/web7.3 Once again proud of our team and grateful to our supporters!
"Nobody touch that task list," says Summer, the farm dog, "it's nap time."
What a season for our first year farm manager, Nina. So proud of you and our hard working CSA (community supported agriculture) team for fulfilling our customers weekly for the past 19 weeks...through pandemic, wildfire evacuations, smoke-filled skies, you all are amazing! Hope to grow our customer base even more come next Spring. Thank you all who support Common Roots Farm.
Winter squash is here!
