In need of some fine motor skill activities while at home? Try these! 1. Play-doh: provide tactile and heavy work input as well as hand strengthening and functional hand use by using cookie cutters to form different animals/shapes!... 2. Pre-writing skills: draw a motivating template your child can trace within the boundaries of a racetrack, train track or an idea that is motivating to your child's interests! 3. Scissor skills: cutting strips of paper, try to help your child position their wrist in a neutral position with thumb facing the ceiling, guide them to use their other hand to stabilize the paper while they cut on the line, you can make it less challenging by drawing the line thicker or using loop scissors (as pictured)! 4. Pipe-cleaner lacing: address visual motor skills and grasping by having your child lace pipe cleaner through small holes of the strainer! 5. Theraputty: try hiding small objects inside for a treasure hunt to address grasping skills and hand strength! 6. Cut and paste: have your child assist you with drawing a circle and address pre-writing skills and visual perceptual skills by gluing pieces inside the circle; try using spatial terms such as "put the square INSIDE the circle, put the square UNDER the circle" for an added challenge! #sandiegoOT #athome #finemotorskills #visualmotorskills #play #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #teletherapy
