We are celebrating the Day of the Dead by honoring the people who lived on this land in the area where this house was built. The Huichin Ohlone People, The Peralta Family, the Cohens and the Brays.
Shows the neighborhood and the changes over time in people and place.
This part of the Cohen Bray house was built after the 1906 Earthquake destroyed the back rooms. It was built to have a mountain lodge feeling. Note the Craftsman Style popular at the time. Wood paneling, heavy redwood mantles over the doors and fireplace. Many of the pieces in this room were inherited from the Fern side Estate that was in Alameda. @cohenbrayhouse #cohenbrayhouse #oaklandhistory #craftsman #VictorianAlliance #alamedahistory #historyofoakland #historyloversclub #historyalive #oldhouses
The house is lonely without you! However, projects are being completed! Theres a new roof over the kitchen porch! And the garden looks beautiful in the back. Drive by and see the work being done clearing the Ivy out of the front yard. Stay safe! Hope to see you soon.
They are amazing! Great App. It is the main tool we use with our collections?
We miss you all! The garden looks beautiful but alas we cannot share the inside with our annual Mother’s Day tea and tour. First time we have been closed for this fundraising event in over 25 years. Support historic houses. Don’t let plans for the future let you forget the past.
A running tab for supplies at the Fruitvale hardware store.Oakland CA in 1916. @CohenBrayhouse. So many documents like this in this time capsule! #oaklandcalifornia #hardware #oaklandheritagealliance ##historyfacts
