Contra Costa County Historical Society 19.02.2021

As of this afternoon, the History Center now has a microfilm and microfiche scanner. This is a far cry from the old readers that, if you were lucky, printed a marginally readable copy on lousy quality paper. The new scanner works much like flatbed scanners, in that it lets you pick an area of the page to scan, then saves copies of your scan in JPG, TIFF or PDF (regular or OCR scanned!) versions. Prompted by a recent donation of the last 40 years or so of the Contra Costa Times, as well as many years of the Valley Pioneer, all on microfilm rolls, the scanner will be available to researchers in our public access area.

Please note: The History Center will be closed from Tuesday, December 24, 2019, reopening on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Stop by in the next week or so to check out our archives as well as our bookstore. In addition to those books listed on our online bookstore, we have a lot of one-off titles and other goodies that we don't list, but are available for purchase. Don't forget, you save the cost and wait of shipping the books to you, and members get a discount for purchasing books in person. Oh, did we mention that parking in downtown Martinez is FREE until the end of 2019? Another savings!
