Coast music therapists, Laura Anderson and Vanessa Contopulos (also the owner of Amplify Music Therapy) have launched a new music and yoga curriculum for moms and babies. Seed & Song uses music therapy strategies within the context of a yoga class to appeal to both moms and babies. By harnessing the power of music and the benefits of yoga, Seed & Song classes offer moms tools to cope with the new demands of motherhood. At the same time, baby is learning, growing and bonding with mom. The soundtrack is rich with original folk-inspired songs that are catchy and easy to sing. Calling all parents and Music Therapists! We're sharing a research study opportunity through Point Loma Nazarene University. Check out the info below. Dear Parents and Music Therapists, I have a wonderful opportunity for you! My name is Annette Jones and I am a school psychologist in San Diego, California. We know that the ability to speak to friends, help with shopping, remain focused and calm in class and events all require language skills. I am hoping that you’ll particip...ate in a study to research the effects of music therapy upon language acquisition skills. Music therapy has proven to be an incredible asset to the progress of student’s academic and social skills progress. I have been able to observe music therapy sessions within my classroom for students with moderate/severe characteristics and realize how crucial it is for students to learn to self-advocate, move closer to the goals of speech and language, and to make progress with social skills and academics. This research project involves your perspective on the relationship between how your child responded to music therapy and their language development. Your response is purely voluntary. If you choose to participate, you and I will complete an interview of 10 short-answer questions lasting 40 minutes. The interview questions will focus on a description of your child’s language development, their language skills, how they are responding to music therapy and your desires for future language development for your child. Your participation will assist with furthering effective instructional programs for language development for students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Your responses will be kept confidential. Once your responses are analyzed, they will be securely disposed. I can answer any questions at any time! At the conclusion of the study, the results will be made available to you, along with the contact details of the researcher for follow-up questions you may have. I may be reached through [email protected] and will gladly work with your schedule for the interview. Annette Jones, Ed.S Northwest Nazarene University See more
