In honor of #BullyingPreventionMonth this October we are sharing 8 Kidpower Skills to Stop Bullying! Today's skill is Skill #7: Be Persistent in Getting Help Fr...om Busy Adults We have found that rehearsing what to say and do is helpful for both children and adults in learning how to persist and get help when you need it. To practice, pretend to be a teacher, coach, or someone else who kids might expect help and support from. Tell your students who you are pretending to be and where you might be. Coach your students to start saying in a clear calm voice, Excuse me I have a safety problem. Continue reading on www.kidpower.org/library/article/prevent-bullying/#skill7

The following image-segments were taken by myself from a video of Japanese Karate. In the video, a number of expert sports-Karate performers were executing thei...r brilliantly choreographed kata (movement forms) on stage. So to not focus my criticism on any particular person, I am only showing their legs and feet. What is seen in the photographs, is a common problem and health concern among Karateka. The stance assumed by the demonstrators is 'Zenkutsu Dachi' (equivalent of Gong Bu in Chinese martial arts). From their time as beginners, they were not taught to stretch their knees in opposite directions, and lift up the perineum. This would have resulted in what is called 'Anterior Pelvic Tilt', and the lengthening of the tendon-muscle pair called the Ilio-Psoas. I layman's terms, they should have been stretching their front knee forward, extending (locking) their rear knee, and lifting their butt. Because they do not do this, their hip crevice and hip joins (the 'Kua') remained stiff and inflexible To compensate for this inflexibility, their rear foot, and sometimes front foot, lean sideways and off the floor. When the feet lean sideways and off the floor, that causes the knees to collapse left or right. Over years and sometimes decades, this inevitably results in tearing and ripping apart of the knee ligaments, leading to surgery and life-long injuries. With my own students, I force them to stretch correctly within this stance, and make sure that their feet do not collapse sideways or inward. This is usually corrected within the first six months of training.
