Historically, institutions have brought in students of color, Black students in particular, in large numbers, but they have not been retained, said Brian Haynes, vice chancellor of Student Affairs. But here at UCR, across racial and ethnic lines, the equity gaps have almost been eliminated. Not all of the colleges and universities around the country have the same philosophy. That’s why we continue year in and year out across the UC system, to bring in the most diverse classes of incoming students. It’s in our DNA. It’s in our roots. It’s just who we are at UCR. Honeybees pollinate more than 80 agricultural crops, which account for about a third of what we eat. Several factors, including pesticide exposure and the spread of parasites and environmental changes, are to blame for the widespread collapse of bee colonies over the past decade. ... #UCRscience Learn more at https://news.ucr.edu//scientists-developing-new-solutions-

A program to test a smartphone-based COVID-19 exposure notification system will expand to an additional five University of California campus locations as a result of accomplishments from an initial deployment earlier this fall at two UC campuses. The program is a joint effort between the University and the State of California to assess use of the technology on a voluntary basis as a means of reducing the spread of the virus. The effort uses Google/Apple Exposure Notification... (GAEN) technology on smartphones to supplement the essential work of human contact tracers and help further reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. A major goal of this pilot is to determine if using this smartphone technology can encourage users to respond to a high-risk exposure more quickly by self-isolating and receiving additional clinical resources, which are key to limiting the spread of COVID-19.
