Club Stride founder Dr. Rhonda Renfro says that all that she really understood in the beginning was that there was a need for programs for young girls in the community where she lived. She wanted better opportunities for her daughter to socialize and grow and couldn't find many options. So she and her daughter Jasmine formed Club Stride. The organization was named by her daughter, who envisioned girls leading the endeavor together. Dr. Renfro and her daughter passed out flye...rs in the local community, inviting girls to meet. There were 14 girls at their first meeting. "Today, I understand how critical it is for communities to work together to fill gaps where needed so that we can all live happy and prosperous lives. We need each other." Dr. Renfro gives tremendous honor to her mother, who was a savvy black business woman who raised six children on her own. "My mom was Club Stride's strongest supporter. Without her love and commitment to supporting me, I could never have done this." . #everydayisblackhistory See more

To be honest, this may have been 2017. These conversations were the platform for our youth-led media advocacy initiatives. Some of the youth founders are Daisaku Edwards, Terrence Vaden, Azaria Riggins, Olivia Sanchez, and Troy Sambajon. They wanted to make an impact and they did. They participated in hundreds of meetings and always had a heart to see Club Stride be successful. This flashback is in recognition of their contribution to everything that we are today. We learned so much together . @clubstride

We believe that what incarcerated children need now is #inspiration. Studies have found that inspiration matters a lot, especially at this time of the year. A big trigger for inspiration is exposure to inspiring people. If that's you, the @clubstride community is asking for just a few words of kindness from you to share with children in California detention facilities. * Your words of encouragement can wake incarcerated children up to new possibilities, and inspire them to tr...anscend their experiences, circumstances and limitations. * Speak from your heart. We'll add your comment to our mural to be hung in Bay Area juvenile detention centers. Write a message below or DM us to support, motivate and inspire children in California detention centers and we will make sure that its delivered. ____ A campaign by formerly incarcerated activists, system impacted youth activists, and friends and family of incarcerated children. * #juveniles #juvenilejustice #juvenilehall #california #detentioncenters #criminaljusticereform #crime #prison #pipelinetoprison #prisonindustrialcomplex #formerlyincarcerated #systemicracism #incarceratedchildren See more

Everyone has been so confused over the past 6 months about what was really happening in world of politics. Due to social media confusion, young voters could not figure out what was true or false in the world of politics. It became clear to STUDENT OUTREACH that what was needed was to understand what presidential candidates truly stood for, and make that information available to their peers and family to help inform their vote. Immigration is one issue that has truly brought... the issues of xenophobia, racisim and white supremacy front and center for voters. This is a burning issue that younger generations have partnered to bring awareness about. The group conducted their own research about these issues to share them through podcast segments. This is a brief excerpt from a podcast about the immigration issue. STUDENT OUTREACH is completely student led. See more

Congratulations Darnella Frazier for your courage. She was criticized and taunted because she captured and posted the killing of George Floyd. Yesterday, she received the 2020 PEN/Benenson Courage Award. Thank you Darnella. Now others will know that it is not a bad thing to capture and share this type of brutality with the world. It is critical! We are grateful, and you deserve this award and so much more.

Carlos Esquivel has accomplished the extraordinary achievement of becoming a first generation graduate! Please help us congratulate Carlos. * Being a first generation student demands taking risks and doing something that you've never seen anyone in your family do before. Approximately 50% of college students are first in their families to attend college. Our CEO was one of them, which is why Carlos' story means so much to us. * Despite the challenges, believe in yourself. ...When we succeed, it creates a chance at upward mobility and more success for our entire family. Carlos now serves as a role model and inspiration for his parents, younger siblings and his greater community. We were honored to have had him as a photography intern in our summer community building program. He is developing into an awesome photographer. @tf_figure_photography wishing you continued success. The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating, but thanks to great people like the people at @solanocf @tcufund , @thenimitzgroup our board of directors and all the wonderful people who took the time to support and care about Club Stride, we made it. When the school closures happened, our organization suffered. We could never be getting ready for a brighter future without you. We're pulling it all back together. Thank you everyone. But special thanks to the fantastic interns and young people who continue to stand with us. You inspire the best in us and we are lucky to work with you. As we prepare our facility to be a center for youth advocacy and leadership development, we are extremely grateful to be moving forward. Do we distance learn or return to campus full time? It's important for us to have a president who will treat the lives of everyone with respect. So many people have died from COVID-19. We have to choose a president with a good plan for reopening schools and for ensuring our safety and academic success. * We make the decision who that will be. And the decision will affect when students return to school and how. So please encourage everyone who can to #Vote _________________ E...ducators play a major role in choosing the president of the United States. There's something called the NEA (National Education Association). It's huge and powerful. It has over 3 million members nation-wide. Their slogan is "Education Votes." * They held the current administration accountable when it tried to pressure school reopening this fall despite health organizations warning against it. * Good to know there are people out there working together to protect the interest of students on such a large scale. Special thank you to all the educators and administrators out there working to support us. * The NEA has endorsed Biden +Harris for 2020. * @daniellashow @luldredre @4mv007 @tf_figure_photography @almost.steezy See more
