Although #EEDay2020 is over, #EnergyEfficiency is year-round! One of the easiest ways to save energy is by making the switch to LEDs. Whenever the next time you'll be in the market for new light sources is, keep our guide to picking the right light handy. Our guide is available through video, an infographic, and even a printable pocket guide! cltc.ucdavis.edu/publication/how-choose-right-light
Have your lights ever stopped working unexpectedly? In a recent study, we found that some LED replacement lamps didn't meet the performance criteria claimed by their manufacturers and even failed prematurely. Read more at cltc.ucdavis.edu//long-term-performance-evaluation-led-lig.
Managing lighting is just one of the many ways that you can reduce energy waste, but how do you balance that with ventilation, heating, cooling, and shading? Mathematical optimization techniques can help us make these choices. Learn more at cltc.ucdavis.edu//lda-research-matters-optimizing-building.
It's Oct. 7, so you know what that meanstoday is #EEDay2020! Energy efficiency could meet 1/3 of our expected electricity generation needs by 2030. Here are some ways to be energy efficient: energyefficiencyday.org/ways-to-save-on-your-next-energy-bi.
Have you considered being #EnergyEfficient in your exterior lighting projects yet? We worked on a project with the US Department of Defense and Philips on dynamic exterior lighting installations, resulting in energy AND cost savings. For more info, watch at youtu.be/OFMjkH2ufKE.
Need a quick refresher on lighting and energy efficiency before #EEDay2020? Check out our Nonresidential and Residential Lighting Guides, designed to help you navigate lighting best practices to be #EnergyEfficient in all of your lighting projects! Our Nonresidential Lighting Guide can be found at cltc.ucdavis.edu//nonresidential-lighting-electrical-power, while our Residential Lighting Guide can be found at cltc.ucdavis.edu//residential-lighting-guide-2019-building.
CLTC is excited to support @Energy Efficiency Day again this year! To celebrate #EEDay2020 on Oct. 7, this week, we'll be sharing the ways that we're being energy efficient, as well as some resources to help you reduce energy waste. For more information, visit energyefficiencyday.org!
CLTC recently completed a four-year EPIC-sponsored research program that included a long-term performance evaluation of commercially available LED light sources. The study aimed to determine if today’s existing products meet their stated performance when installed in worst-case thermal conditions typical of applications designed to comply with California’s Title 24 requirements. Evaluation results showed that the tested LED replacement lamps met most of the performance crite...ria claimed by their manufacturers. However, 36% of the tested lamps failed prematurely. To learn more, read CLTC's findings in the May 2020 LD+A Research column. https://cltc.ucdavis.edu//2020%20May%20LDA%20Life%20Testin
Happy Earth Day! CLTC is celebrating by highlighting our collaborations with the City of Davis and UC Davis to develop exterior lighting specifications that help reduce: 1. Energy use 2. The potential for direct glare 3. Sky glow from blue light scattering of high-CCT light sources... The Davis specifications for exterior lighting include: Full cut-off optics Low CCT, 2,700 3,000 K Adaptive controls Learn more about how you can take action all year long: https://www.earthday.org/todays-action/
CLTC is excited to release our 2019 Nonresidential Lighting & Electrical Power Distribution Guide! This guide assists builders and lighting industry professionals in navigating the nonresidential lighting and electrical power distribution portions of California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24, Part 6) that took effect on January 1, 2020. https://cltc.ucdavis.edu//nonresidential-lighting-electric #construction #lighting #energyefficiency #lightingdesign #lig...htingdesigner #builders #ledlighting #energysavings #nonresidentialconstruction Energy Code Ace sponsored and developed the guide in collaboration with the California Energy Commission. It complements the California Energy Commission's Nonresidential Compliance Manual as well as energy education classes on lighting offered by Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Southern California Edison (SCE).

As buildings become smarter, we have gained the ability to dynamically-control our environment to achieve all kinds of goals. Thermal comfort, visual comfort, energy-efficiency and sustainability goals all influence our design and building operations decisions. As the list of these influential factors grows, mathematical optimization techniques, called 'design optimization' within the building design community, can help us make better building management and operational choices. Learn more about building design and operation optimization in the November 2019 LD+A Magazine Research column! https://cltc.ucdavis.edu//ies-lda-research-matters-optimiz
