Meet artist William Bucher! Will has been working with Claraty, as he puts it, for a really long time. Will is an independent thinker who creates imaginitave, surreal, and often politcal art pieces with various mediums such as pencil, acrylic paint, and sewing. His inspiration for his art comes from being able to set a stage for the characters he draws and create his own stories. Will likes making art because it is fun and he likes that way he can mix match it. Will is ...constantly thinking of unique, inventive characters and stories that show up vividly throughout his work. Here are a few images of what artist Allison Orr has been working on in the Claraty Arts Virtual Studio! Allison is a drawer and painter known for her meticulous, delicate pattern work. Allison is excellent at expressing emotion through various mediums. Over the past year, Allison has been practicing drawing and watercoloring imagery using various drawing techniques and patterns. Her favorite technique is stippling. She has become quite confident in this technique with pens. ...Recently, Allison has begun working in in acrylic paint, which she is now learning to stipple with as well! Acrylic paint has become Allison’s favorite medium currently, because she loves the challenge. We appreciate so much how Allison is so dedicated to her work, even through the closures. Aaron Grushkin has been working with Claraty Arts for just over a year and has been growing so much as an artist during that time. He loves to make sketches inspired by his life, often with subjects such as food and animals, filling them with vibrant, energetic color! Aaron wants to make draw...ings that make people happy and that are fun to look at. His interests outside of art include music- his favorite styles are reggae, rock & roll, and rap, and going places and seeing people. His favorite places to go before the closures were Ace Hardware, Hart’s fabric store, and the local toy store. The Claraty Arts Project is excited to announce our upcoming show PERSPECTIVE at the Hotel Paradox! Technology has been at the foundation of our silver linings during these closures. Gaming servers, cell phones, video chats, google calendars - they’ve all helped us stay connected virtually during a time that has pulled us apart physically. Here’s a little preview into our virtual studio, where seven of our artists have just finished their morning break-out session with their instructor and joined back together in the drawing room. Their mornings are spent learning about art... foundations through a short lesson and then work together to develop their skills and understanding of how to use and apply what they learn. Pictured here is also a sneak peek into Ken’s current work in progress, which is found in our text channel #art-pics-and-vids. This breathtaking piece will make its debut at the Hotel Paradox in December, when Ken has his first solo show! Color Exploration with Digital Art by Rosemary Sanders Rose has been having so much fun on our online studio doing digital art. She uses aggie.io to make her pieces. In her words, Digital art is different than hand art because you can use a computer mouse or a cool pen and iPad to move around to draw. You can pick any color that you want. After you upload a picture you can use the pencil tool to outline/trace the photo. By changing the size of your paint brush you can use ...different colors to fill in your shapes. Instructor Autumn has this to say about working with Zach: Working with Zach is really fun - not only has he shown interest in one of my favorite mediums, but he is a hard worker with a strong eye and charming style. Zach draws artistic inspiration from his surroundings, whether it’s a cemetery or favorite hiking spot or musical performance, and helping him narrate his interests through visual art...work is a dream! While Zach has a lot of experience with drawing, watercolor is new for him, and like with any new skill, the process has been a little challenging at first. Artist Josh joined our studio in February with a desire to expand his doll making skills. He was able to spend a month with instructor Palmer before the closures happened and we weren’t sure how this would impact our new artist. Nonetheless, he has gone from making doll clothes for the dolls his grandmother makes for him to designing and executing the entire doll himself! A natural artist and creative individual, Josh not only continues to thrive in his art practice, but he h...as also been instrumental in helping Claraty Arts create our virtual studio in Discord by being the first artist to work with us on this platform (thanks to his prior knowledge). His drive and resiliency are nothing short of inspiring, and his willingness to express himself in an unfamiliar place lends us all that same confidence.
