Post after post sharing a unified voice. Then I saw stories and posts from black activists who, through this platform, have thought me an incredible amount over the past couple of years. They did not find all the black squares powerful and uplifting. They found them problematic and emblematic of performative activism. I digested their words. I deleted my post. On Friday and Saturday the riots raged through downtown Los Angeles bringing indiscriminate destruction to large and small businesses alike. Saturday night my storefront studio & showroom in was attacked and looted. Our neighborhood is in crisis, our city is in crisis and I am deeply saddened by the long term effects this outcry will have as well as the immense pain of our nation at this time. I am raw and wounded but bowled over by the support and love of those who showed u...p in this moment of need. I am grateful for my crew of solid brothers who held it down for me. Braving the riot & curfew defending my space and boarding up my window, in the middle of the night. The systemic injustice of our nation cannot be solved overnight, nor perhaps even within our generation. It is up to us. I have felt a lot of things over the past month. I have felt exhaustion, stress and a high level of personal responsibility to deliver a quality product in a timely and sometimes not so timely manner.
