Representatives from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory gave a presentation to the La Cañada Flintridge City Council on their Mars 2020 Perseverance landing mission. Happening today, February 18 at 12:55 PM, this landing is a critical step NASA's most ambitious Mars mission to date. La Cañada Flintridge is proud to host JPL in our community and to have a front-row seat to the innovation LCF residents participate in each day. Due to current fire-related red flag weather conditions, Southern California Edison (SCE) has announced that it may initiate Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in various portions of the City as a fire precautionary measure. The City is not consulted in these decisions. Should SCE initiate a PSPS, your power could be out for several hours. Partnership Between Crescenta Valley Station, City of La Cañada Flintridge and Flock Safety Yield Great Arrests Over the last week, residents in our station are...a may have noticed several great arrests by Crescenta Valley Deputies. On both Sunday and Monday, we recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested several suspects. On Tuesday, we found a vehicle that was involved in a La Cañada Flintridge residential burglary and arrested the suspect. The burglary suspect was then tied to several other burglaries in the area. While we would love to take all the credit, it was a team effort between the station, the City of La Cañada Flintridge, and the Flock Safety cameras. The three parties entered into a partnership where numerous Flock Safety cameras were deployed throughout the city. The cameras have Automatic License Plate Recognition technology that can read the plates of passing vehicles, day or night. The cameras help identify vehicles that are reported stolen. They can also pinpoint license plates that have a warrant or are wanted in connection to a crime. Once the camera identifies a vehicle that is wanted, the system alerts our Deputies. With a plate number and vehicle picture on hand, our field units can search the area for the car. This new technology will assist our station with recovering stolen property, apprehending suspects, and lowering crime. We look forward to sharing more success stories in the future.
