Watcha watchin'? Kim McCarthy, CHSTA President, is watching the School Board Meeting - which is mainly a Board Workshop tonight. "Like" to follow along in the comments! (BTW - there are 4 other folks watching now). Before the workshop, the Board is discussing possible changes in the Homework Policy (Fourth Reading).

Hey CHSTA - Help repair the inequity created by Prop 13 and dial up a few fellow educators. Only 22% of CHSTA members have ID'd on Prop 15 and we'd like to get that up to 80%! You could also sign on to support Prop 15! Go to this link to "sign the pledge": http://bit.ly/CTAProp15 #VotePublicEd

At Dietrich Lei’s celebration of life attended by dozens of students, staff and family, his wife Nadezhda said the times when the normally law-abiding Lei broke... the rules were what she loved about him. His wife of 10 years said that he would ride without a helmet during one of their first trips to the Indonesian island Bali. Another time, he admitted to being caught by police smoking in an airport. We have a saying in Russian, ‘Sometimes you just have to break the rules,’ she said. Teachers and students recalled his dry sense of humor and his passion for music and his preference for the older adaptations of movies based on books and plays. Junior Naia Sasano remembered that Lei would often ask her to speak up not just to say things more loudly (he was hard of hearing in one ear), but to share and fully form her ideas. English teacher Tobie Schweizer shared several stories, including one where he and another male English teacher crashed the all-female Christmas party just to deliver a greeting card. The hourlong celebration ended with attendees blowing bubbles into the wind in his honor. Nadezhda was one of the last to speak at the ceremony. She said that her husband loved his job and his students. What he teaches you, remember that, she told the crowd. It's not what he says that's in a book. It's in his heart." Photos by Nolan Zils
