The holiday season + 2020 in general is leaving many people feeling overwhelmed and shut down. How do you know if this is you? You may feel excessively tired, unmotivated, cloudy headed and your body may feel heavy. You may need to rest, and take it easy for awhile to allow your nervous system to recooporate. Movement can also help. Start with your arms and legs. Move them, put weight into them and notice how that feels. Stretch and feel the space around you. Go for a walk if you can. Let me know if this helps! #intelligenceissexy #beyondsmart #book #learn #curious #anxiety #gifted #giftedadults #giftedchildren #thoughts #workfromhome #telehealth #therapist #california #creativity #create #traumahealing #motivation #wisdomwednesday

Nurturing intelligence is part of growing natural talent. Education can take many forms beyond formal education. We learn from pursuing our interests, trying new things, experimentation, connecting with mentors, reading, playing and by making mistakes. Often intelligent, creative people are not satisfied by their jobs or school. If work or school is not as fulfilling as you would like it to be, have projects of your own that matter and allow you to be your fully awesome self when you are off the clock. #love #traumahealing #shameless #intelligenceissexy #beyondsmart #book #learn #curious #anxiety #gifted #giftedadults #giftedchildren #thoughts #workfromhome #telehealth #therapist #california #thrive #survive #thearpythursday #motivation #yougotthis #balance #dbtskills #tuesdaytip

Becoming our true selves is a gift. So often in life, external pressures shape our personalities, our interests, and our choices. Sometimes this person who emerges is our authentic self, sometimes it isn't. Is your authentic self seen by others? Are you who you want to be? This is a question that goes beyond our jobs. It is about how we interact with the world, our values, and living a full life. #love #traumahealing #shameless #intelligenceissexy #beyourself #anxietyrelief #beyondsmart #learn #value #meaningful #mensa #create #books #giftedadults #giftedchildren #cag #goodlife #motivationmonday #mentalhealth #telehealth #therapy #california

People feel and internalize toxic shame for many reasons. It may be result of past trauma such as buse or chronic misatunement from others. Intelligent, creative people are often shamed throughout their lives and encouraged to hide their talent. This can effect self esteem, how we interact with others and how we show up in the world. Being able to identify the source of shame, and process it can help you to transform that shame intto compassion and heal. It's life changing. How would your life be different? #love #traumahealing #shameless #intelligenceissexy #beyondsmart #book #learn #curious #anxiety #gifted #giftedadults #giftedchildren #thoughts #workfromhome #telehealth #therapist #california

Showing compassion to yourself and others is good self and relationship care. One way to do this is to avoid using words of judgment, and stick to the facts. By doing this, you reduce distorted thought patterns which contribute to anxiety, depression and conflict with loved ones. For example: You make a mistake on a project. Judgment: I'm so stupid. I ruin everything. ... Fact: I made a mistake in my calculation. I can fix that. Another example: You child or partner is throwing laundry on the floor. Judgment: You suck! Why do you have to be such a slob all the time? Fact: There are dirty clothes all over the floor. Please put them in the basket before you do anything else. Remember, cleaning up after ourselves is one of our agreed upon house rules? #feelbetter #sundayselfcare #selfcaresunday #stressrelief #anxiety #traumahealing #bestlife #relationshiphelp #beyondsmart #intelligenceissexy #gifted

Orienting to healthy pleasure reduces stress and the intesity of negative emotions. Try noticing something you like or pleasant sensation for at least 30 seconds and see how you feel. Sometimes this takes practice, so don't worry if you can't do it yet. Keep practicing! #happybrain #stressrelief #anxiety #health #traumahealing #bestlife #beyondsmart #intelligenceissexy #telehealth #therapy #giftedadults #giftedchildren #cag #california

Bright, capable people often go into a "freeze" state where they feel heavy, tired, spacey, overwhelmed, immobile and/or highly distracted when presented with an undesirable, mundane, or task. It happens at all ages. This can result in things not getting done, damaged self esteem and relationship ruptures. If this is happening to you or a loved one, try moving arms and legs and notice if that helps. Also listening to music or talking while doing the task can help. If this is a persistent problem connect with an experienced professional who can collaborate with you to move through the freeze. #therapythursday #traumahealing #bestlife #healing #healthyyou #bestlife #beyondsmart #intelligenceissexy #gifted #giftedadults #giftedchildren #anxiety #depression #getunstuck #freeze

Intelligent, sensitive people often have very active minds. Thought is a huge part of who you are. How do you nurture this part of yourself? Do you have others to share your ideas with? Do you write? Due to asynchronous development, misatunement from others, and generally being different from average, gifted people can feel like they are less intelligent, incapable or that something is "wrong" with them. If they are part of a marinalized group, your experience may be even more difficult. I often help people to work through these feelings, feel understood, find authentic connections and to notice their own success. What has been your experience?... #authenticself #anxietyrelief #anxiety #traumahealing #relationshiphelp #depression #giftedadults #giftedchildren #giftedandtalented #beyondsmart #intelligenceissexy #therapy #california
