Yesterday, February 24, 2021, with the assistance of neighboring CHP Offices (Bakersfield CHP, Fort Tejon CHP, Buttonwillow CHP, and CHP Fort Tejon-Grapevine) the Porterville CHP conducted another Special Enforcement Detail on State Route 65 between SR-190 and the city of Lindsay. The California Highway Patrol’s number one goal is to protect life and property. One way to achieve this goal is by reducing fatalities and serious injuries that may result from traffic collision...s. During these Special Enforcement Details, officers focus on speeding, following too close, and unsafe lane changes. Officers also look for distracted drivers, and occupant restraint violations. During the 3 hour detail, 12 officers made 96 enforcement stops resulting in 45 speeding citations, one occupant restraint (seat belt) citation, and 23 other moving citations (following too close, unsafe lane changes, etc.). Please be safe out on our roadways, together we can make our roads a safer place to travel. CHP - Central Division CHP - Buttonwillow CHP - Fort Tejon CHP - Bakersfield CHP - Fort Tejon-Grapevine

Porterville CHP conducted another Speed Enforcement Detail. This Detail was conducted today on SR-190 between Road 284 and Road 152 (including adjacent roadways) during the morning hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. CHP Officers issued a total of 20 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, and 1 citation for not wearing a seatbelt. One of our CHP units even made an enforcement stop on a commercial vehicle (truck/tractor) with trailer only to find out the driver was d...riving out of class (unlicensed for that specific vehicle). The truck/tractor and trailer were impounded until the registered owner could find a driver with the correct class of license to pick up the vehicle. The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security. Our ultimate purpose is to save lives, and through our strategic planning efforts, we will continue expanding our law enforcement responsibilities to provide California's communities with education, enforcement, and support to decrease fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways. In case you were wondering what the detour was for this morning. A collision on W North Grand Ave west of Walch Ct at 0545 hrs. a sleepy driver ran off the roadway and collided with a power pole. No injuries reported. Edison responded and turned the power off. Remember, to get plenty of rest and don’t drive drowsy!

This two vehicle traffic collision occurred on Avenue 228 at Road 204 at approximately 1:50 p.m. today. Initially, an ambulance was dispatched to respond. Fortunately, when Porterville CHP arrived it was determined to be a non-injury collision. The Chevrolet pick-up was traveling northbound on Road 204 at Avenue 228, and the Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound on Avenue 228 just east of Road 204. The Chevrolet proceeded into the intersection in front of the Dodge wit...hout stopping, which was controlled by a posted stop sign for northbound/southbound traffic. This caused the Dodge to collide into the right front of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet then veered off in a northwesterly direction and collided with a power pole. This traffic collision could have been much worse, but luckily all occupants were wearing their safety belts. Collisions like this remind us all how dangerous our roadways can be, and how important it is to buckle up, and obey all stop signs/speed limits. See more

Late last week (Thursday & Friday) the Porterville CHP conducted two separate Special Enforcement Details (specifically on SR-65). There have been multiple complaints of high speed, and various other moving violations throughout southern Tulare County. Thursday we issued 35 citations, and Friday 38 citations. The picture of the citations attached are just a portion of violations found. We will be conducting multiple Special Enforcement Details through 2021. Unsafe spee...d, unsafe lane changes, following too closely, distracted driving, and DUI will be strictly enforced. Please slow down, limit all distractions, and lets all drive to arrive.

Be a winner by making sure to celebrate this Super Bowl Sunday responsibly. If you must travel, remember to drive sober, avoid distractions and always buckle up. If you choose to drink, do not get behind the wheel. Designate a sober driver.
