Due to the Copper Fire, SR-16 was closed between Forest Home Rd., and Ione Rd., in Sacramento County. Officers from Amador CHP and East Sacramento CHP were on scene at Ione Rd with Amador Caltrans who we’re about to move the closure into Amador County. A white Dodge Ram truck traveling eastbound toward the closure continued toward the closed intersection, the personnel who were directing traffic, and the parked vehicles. Once it became obvious the vehicle was not going to ...stop, all personnel immediately moved to safety and the Dodge ran directly into the passenger side door of one of the Caltrans vehicles. The CHP Officers immediately assessed the driver for injuries and removed him from the vehicle. As the driver attempted to regain access to the driver’s compartment, officers were able to intervene and prevent any possible officer safety issues. In doing so, one of the officers identified the grip of a pistol protruding from between the driver’s seat and the center console. The weapon was discovered to be a loaded Taurus Judge .410 shotgun pistol. In addition, two other pistols were located in the vehicle. All with large amounts of ammunition. All within reach of the driver. In addition to the numerous weapons violations, the driver was also arrested for DUI and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. See more

US-50 CLOSURE AT ECHO SUMMIT - IMPORTANT INFORMATION - A signed detour route will be available using State Highways 89, 88, 49 and 16. The detour adds about 35 miles (45 minutes) each way from South Lake Tahoe to Sacramento. ...... Motorists are encouraged to stay on the state route detour during the full closure of Highway 50. Avoid smaller, side roads, such as Ridge Rd. in Pine Grove, CA. (already a high traffic area with 10 ton weight limit) and Shake Ridge Rd. near Volcano, CA. (temporary one-way traffic closure, see picture) These roads tend not to be able to handle the extra traffic. Mormon Emigrant Trail, which is a USFS maintained road, is closed from SR-88 (Amador County) to Sly Park Rd (El Dorado County) due to fire dangers and fires in the area. There is no estimated time of opening. For more information, call the USFS at (530) 622-5061. More information on the detour route is available at: way2tahoe.com/detour-information. Travelers also are advised that there are minimal services available and limited mobile phone access along the high elevations of the detour route. Motorists are advised to have a full tank of gas and to carry extra food, water and clothing. For maps and visitor information, visit the Amador County Visitors Bureau at visitamador.com or the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce, alpinecounty.com. See more

Is that the Loch Ness monster lurking in the woods of Amador County? No, that’s a truck and trailer, with a mini excavator on the trailer on Quartz Road, near Pioneer Volcano Road. The driver was unloading the mini excavator, as the excavator reached the back of the trailer, the weight of the excavator lifted the back end of the truck. A vehicle parked down hill and a rear axle in the air is not a good combination. A parking brake won’t work if it’s rear wheels are in the air. The truck, trailer, mini excavator and the driver, rolled down the hillside out of control. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. Not only is it important to secure and drive safely when towing a load, but its as important to safely load/unload equipment. Always park level when possible, set it in park, apply the parking brake, chock the wheels and have a spotter.

Yesterday, this truck was traveling westbound on Shenandoah Road when the driver fell asleep. The truck traveled across the road and left the south side of the road. The truck traveled up the dirt embankment and then into a fence. The truck came to rest in a field. Fortunately, the female driver and male passenger were not injured.

Today Officer Clevenger was awarded a certificate of commendation from our department. On June 10, 2019, Officer Clevenger and Officer Fernandez responded to a head on collision on SR-49, north of Electra Road. An involved vehicle had caught fire and Officer Clevenger was able to force the door open and extricate the driver from the burning vehicle. Officer Clevenger was brave, courageous and demonstrated the dedication and commitment our officers provide to our communities.

Please be careful this Labor Day weekend and make the right decision. Don't drink and drive!

Our officers are currently working a non-injury collision on Pine Grove Volcano Road, just west of Pioneer Volcano Road. For an unknown reason, a tree trimming truck rolled over and is partially blocking the roadway. Please avoid the area if possible.
