I had a moment of complete joy and happiness watching my students today. Ms. LeRinh is in her 70’s. She came to my school already having earned 4th degree Black... Belt in Ho Kuk Mu Sul but wanting to learn Taekwondo. She has been training with me for the past 10 years. Today I asked her to share her Ho Kuk Mu Sul knowledge with our younger students as a way of creating bonding experiences. The young students were so excited to be learning something new and it was obvious Ms. LeRinh appreciated the respect and the adoration of the kids. Regardless of age, today they were sharing a common interest and experience and having lots of fun! See more

Choi’s UTA Black Belt Class 2020 coming to a to a full circle. Today was the Black Belt awards ceremony. Normally this is a formal event complete with Belt tyin...g ceremony followed by a sit down dinner and a dance party for family and friends. BUT times being what it is it was an outdoor event. For the students who had to overcome so many challenges to complete their Black Belt test back in September woke up this morning to howling winds and bone chilling cold for the outdoor ceremony. It was just another challenge needed to over come to receive their belts!! What can I say? Class of 2020 and their parents are amazing group of strong and resilient people!! Thank you Master Gerardo Sanchez for coming all the way from Santa Rosa to join us today, my fellow UTA masters Jennifer Howard (Choi’s-San Jose), Master Eungsub Kim (Tiger Taekwondo), Ron Dorsey (Choi’s-Scotts Valley) for great cooperation and team work with Black Belt Bootcamp this year. Lastly very special thanks to our parents Mr and Mrs Luke, Katie Landau, Debbie Prudhomme, Mr and Mrs Kendall Sullivan for braving the elements to set up the event this morning and Aneesa Latif for the photos! It warms my heart to see my student grow into a confident young woman. In this photo I can tell that Talia is trying to teach proper foot position to her young student, very much the way she she was taught. Talia and her family were expatriates from Australia living in Scotts Valley and I had the pleasure of having them as my students. They moved back to their home in Melbourne few years back and I miss them very much. To know that we still have this connection through Taekwondo is amazing. I feel blessed!
