The researchers explain that the nerves in the arms activate and adapt to improve function of the spinal cord in other areas of the body, including the legs. Did You Know... Vitamin B-3 May Help Treat Alzheimer's. A variant of vitamin B-3 called nicotinamide riboside (NR) may soon be a viable treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. A recent study explored the effects of NR supplementation on mice genetically engineered to develop the neurodegenerative disorder. After three months of supplementation, the mice had less of the protein tau in the brain, less DNA damage, and more neuroplasticity than mice in a control group that was not provided with NR. Lead researcher Dr. Vilhelm A. Bohr writes, We are encouraged by these findings that see an effect in this Alzheimer's disease model We are looking forward to further testing of how NR or similar compounds might be pursued for their possible therapeutic benefit for people with dementia.
