California Turtle and Tortoise Club, Chino Chapter 04.04.2021

Day 1 of the 2021 virtual Symposium was a success! We heard from Sarah Thomas with @conservesouthwestutah who gave a great presentation about the intersections ...of community and conservation in southwestern Utah. Cindi Tuell with the Arizona & New Mexico Western Watersheds Project delivered a presentation on the Sonoran desert tortoises journey to Endangered Species protection. And lastly, we heard a fantastic session with the Public Lands team on advancing desert tortoise protection and recovery. We also heard two wonderful tributes honoring Philip A. Medica and Peter C. H. Prichard. And don't forget- you still have a couple more hours to submit photos for our Annual Photo Contest!! We look forward to viewing all of your wonderful submissions credit ---> Kerry Lee Holcomb

The Desert Tortoise Council has teamed up with the Turtle Survival Alliance to organize and implement the virtual 46th Annual Desert Tortoise Council Symposium ...on Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning February 9th and concluding on February 25th. We have a spectacular program featuring several plenary speakers covering a vast range of topics for 2021- let's meet a few of them! Dr. Craig Stanford, Chair of the world-wide Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group, IUCN, will be covering the current status of turtles and tortoises across the globe. We also have Dr. Bryan Wallace who will evaluate the successes of the major translocation project in Ivanpah Valley, Dr. Brian Todd who will speak about head-starting projects as a recovery measure, as well as Dr. Elliott Jacobson who published two enormous books summarizing health and diseases in reptiles!! Follow the link below to register today and to learn more about the fantastic programming, raffle, photo contest, and more! https://deserttortoise.org/annual-symposium/symposium-info/

The Desert Tortoise Council's Board of Directors and Ecosystems Advisory Committee recently endorsed a petition to establish the proposed Avi Kwa Ame National M...onument in southern Nevada. This area contains some of the most visually stunning, biologically diverse, and culturally significant lands in the entire Mojave Desert, including desert tortoise populations and habitats. We encourage our followers to sign the petition, which may be accessed here: https://honorspiritmountain.org/ Photo: Anjana Parandhaman
