If you want to be important, wonderful. If you want to be recognized, wonderful. If you want to be great, wonderful.... But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness. And by giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by LOVE. And you can be that servant. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
You will never regret being kind.
Childhood trauma is the biggest public health threat that we're not talking about. Here's why we should:
Unfortunately, the latest budget proposal includes no meaningful investment in child care. We cannot and should not neglect the critical years of 0-3 in a child's life. And we should not forget the thousands of child care providers that have closed. How can there be expansion of new programs when existing programs are left frail and dry? #ChildCareIsEssential Gavin Newsom
By the numbers: California's working poor face reductions in slots and inevitable disenrollment from subsidized child care if nothing is done. The latest budget proposes 67,712 slots for our most fragile of families to access when there are millions in need.
Regional Stay at Home Order Lifted: Santa Barbara County Moves Back to the Purple Tier Officials with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) today ended the Regional Stay at Home Order, lifting the order for all regions statewide, including the three regions that had still been under the order San Joaquin Valley, Bay Area and Southern California. Four-week ICU capacity projections for these three regions are above 15%, the threshold that allows regions to exit th...e order. This action allows all counties statewide to return to the rules and framework of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy and color-coded tiers that indicate which activities and businesses are open based on local case rates and test positivity. Santa Barbara County is now in the strictest, or purple tier. While there are positive signs that the virus is spreading at a slower rate across the state, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over. It is still critical that Californians continue to wear masks when they leave their homes, maintain physical distance of at least 6 feet, wash their hands frequently, avoid gatherings and mixing with other households, follow all state and local health department guidance and get the vaccine when it's their turn. What does the purple tier mean for local business? Gatherings: Outdoor only, max 3 households. Hair Salons & Barbershops: Open indoors with modifications. Retail: Open indoors with 25% capacity Personal Care Services: Open indoors with modifications Museums, Zoos, and Aquariums: Outdoor only with modifications. Places of Worship: Outdoor only with modifications. Movie Theaters: Outdoor only with modifications. Hotels and Lodging: Open with modifications. Gyms and Fitness Centers: Outdoor only with modifications. Restaurants: Outdoor only with modifications. Wineries: Outdoor only with modifications. Bars, Breweries, and Distilleries (w/o meals): Closed. Cardrooms, Satellite, Wagering: Outdoor only with modifications. Family Entertainment Centers: Outdoor only with modifications. Offices: Remote. This mental roadblock of not being able to mentally associate the symptoms with a real threat, can intensify the fear, and potentially trigger a panic attack. If this happens repeatedly, we can start to fear the symptoms, instead of the danger, which can lead to feelings of anxiety and increased stress levels. Increased feelings of stress and anxiety can also prevent us from being able to accurately interpret symptoms and feelings. This quote by Cindy Cherie sums it up nicely: ‘When all you know is fight or flight, red flags and butterflies all feel the same’.
