Vulnerability on Valentines Day? Of course!!! We are most vulnerable with ourselves when we’re expressing love to the people we love. But how can we be vulnerable in loving ourselves? Well that looks a little like getting out of our comfort zone and putting ourselves out there...

Hot Yoga Club Chico 13.03.2021

Love fills us in all our thin places. We know you’ve missed her. We have too. Come join us for a Valentines Special and walk away feeling punch, drunk, loved!!!

Hot Yoga Club Chico 04.03.2021

Our opinion is that vulnerability is just repackaged from Open Communication. What are we talking about here? Our brain is hardwired toward a negativity bias and rarely do we like thrusting ourselves into dangerous situations emotionally or physically. You can thank your prefrontal cortex for this. So as super social creatures we tend to armor up before we even leave our homes. We feel the need to emotionally, intellectually, financially, or physically guard ourselves from ...unwanted criticisms, expectations, opinions, or remarks from others. Sometimes this armor becomes our new normal so much that we forget to take it off at home and for the people who matters most! Learning to be vulnerable to the right people is a muscle that is to be exercised. The first one is deciding who deserves a front seat to your life. Consider the top 5 people in your life whose feedback you would respect and opinion matters most? Write those names down. Anyone not on this list is just white noise. Your top five are the going to be your test market to stretch your vulnerability muscle! See more

A 2-part study just a few years back found that prolong sleep loss can cause viral social withdrawal and loneliness whereby the participant was subjected to sleep deficiency over a moderate period of time. The experiment had shown that the angiogenic profilethat profile that increases your stress response and extends your reapportion boundaries with others was elevated. Additionally, over time this can change a mass amount of gene expression, including the up-regulation of N...F-kB (a protein complex that controls transcription of DNA, cytokine production, and cell survival). It also changes the up-regulation of cortisol and other pro-inflammatory genes. Diving further, what’s even more bizarre about loneliness is that we have immunity components that go after viruses which tend to spread through human contact and interaction (as virus need a host and cannot sustain life without it for long periods of time). However bacteria which can live outside of our bodies can be contracted through every day inanimate objects, such as scraping yourself along a rusted piece of metal and transferring bacteria leading to staph infections. When you become lonely, those gene expressions will shift you away from a profile of a viral immunity defense and push you more toward a profile of bacterial immunity defense. So as you can tell, these are just some of the many reasons sleep is important to health maintenance. See more

Did you know that 1 hour of Yoga Nidra can relax the body in such a way that it believes it has had an extra 4 hours of sleep? For those of us who’s natural disposition is to be in constant movement without rest, asking one to remain still for that long can be excruciating. Newton’s First Law Law of Motion tells us that a body at rest stays at rest while a body in motion stays in motion. Newton however applied this mathematical law to physics. Due to our competitive natures, ...we in turn have redefined it as a psychological reason to abstain from rest and recoveryhence the phrase, I’ll sleep when I’m dead. Without rest and recovery, our bodies remain in stress until it either breaks down or gets sick; whereby you are then forced to rest. Yoga Nidra is a form of meditation as mindfulness. With regular use, you will not only reduce your stress levels, and maintain a healthy immune response, but studies show that regular meditation reduces your ability to become ill by up to 40%. So even if sleep is not possible, try Yoga Nidra for 20 minutes... and go from there. See more

2020 has been full of surprises and called for us to adjust our lives in considerable ways. In some ways it had us feeling like rubber bands, being stretched to our limits and snapped back leaving us limber and sometimes deflated. With all this back and forth it can be hard to really reflect on the positive without defaulting to the superficial just to get-it-out-of-the-way task. This year we have a lot to be thankful for even if it felt like sometimes the world was falling a...part. This year: - 1. Restaurants shared their secret recipes so we could make them at home! - 2. Sweatpants and tees became the new acceptable COVID fashion. - 3. Tiger King and Schitt’s Creek somehow connected us. - 4. Pet adoption saw a rise this year. - 5. Socially distancing took us outside more to be more active. - 6. Crayons launched a box of crayons with diverse skin colors for children to accurately color themselves. - 7. Homeschooling our own kids made us grateful for the work our Teachers do. - 8. We watched SpaceX launch into space setting another mark for future endeavors. - It can be easy to focus on the bad, especially when we’re bombarded with it. And sometimes looking outside can help us focus on the inside. We’re grateful for you. You are our WHY, and the reason we took risks and fought for you when things felt uncertain. WE KNOW YOU BY NAME and we are so grateful for the support you’ve given us and proud to be here for you! See more

- Why we love Kim: Not many people know that psychotherapy and Yoga are very complimentary to each other! Kim knows this, and in order to be successful for herself and her family, she takes yoga in abundance! In fact she will credit it to slowing her down and allowing her to be present and more focused. Other fun facts we discovered about Kim is that she is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, she had 3 kids all under 5 years, she’s originally from San Diego but came to college and never left. Oh, and the fact that she’s just adorable. Next time you see her, crack a joke about Pavlov’s Dog, were sure she’ll love it! - Zodiac: Virgo

- The reality is that we are all different kinds of people shoved together in different countries and communities with the expectation to, just make it work. It doesn't work like that. Understanding requires effort--even the relationships that we want to be in require effort. If you don't find a way to make it work, the alternative is civil discourse or at worse violence. It’s far easier to fall into the trap of civil discourse and cognitive dissonance. Having an honest co...nversation and being willing to be there for someone is more difficult because you may end up hearing and feeling things that you don't want to. The truth is that when you sit with each other you're also susceptible to learning things about yourself that you don't want to face and may have consciously or subconsciously kept hidden. - The great irony is that both sides can accuse the other of being judgemental but both will still miss the fact about how much they themselves judge. In our minds we are the good guyswe are the hero. Most people who tend to be contrary to your own altruistic belief do not believe they are doing anything wrong. They actually believe they are righteous in that they are defending their beliefs that have come under attack. in their resistance they are assuming the responsibility of preserving their way of living at all costs. - With empathic listening you don't have to go so far as to say one must have empathy. It's just the ability to show up and not accuse the other person of being wrong. It's the ability to genuinely seek to understand where they're coming from. See more

We took this test and it was humbling. This Bolt Score ( ) measures the degree of breathlessness or your exercise tolerance. This isn’t a test to see how long you can hold your breath, it’s a test to see how long it takes for your brain to signal that you’re no longer breathing. As defined by the I.J.S.M.I in a 2017 study, the average minimum we should be at is 0:25. If you have this score there is an 89% chance that dysfunctional breathing isn’t present. Some ...of us tried this and clocked in 0:17 - 0:20. - How do you improve a low score? By switching to nasal breathing: - 1. Take a normal breath in through your nose 2. Take a normal breath out of your nose 3. Pinch your nose and walk around holding your breath until you have a moderate to strong air hunger ( -- , ). 4. Let go of your nose and breath normally Repeat 6x’s - Sometimes when people switch to nasal breathing and the air hunger becomes to great they go back to mouth breathing. If you persist with the nose breathing ( 6-8 ), your exercise intensity will improve but your ventilation will be a lot less but your work rate intensity output will also be a lot more. It’s like having a car with a more efficient engine. - Keep in mind that if you have panic disorder or anxiety, you can have a very strong fear response reaction to trying the Bolt Score Test. As you hold your breath the CO2 increases in the blood and can cause an exaggerated fear response of suffocation. Because approximately 80% of people with anxiety or panic disorders breathe incorrectly, switching to nasal breathing can improve these symptoms but they should proceed slowly and in a safe environment free of anything overstimulation when practicing this exercise. The timing of this book could not be more perfect! Everyone is seriously talking about how easy and educational and entertaining this read is! It’s enough information to completely shift your paradigm and become more acutely aware and mindful of your own breathing habits. It’s funny how when we consider our health, we assume food intake, quality of sleep, and stress levels are the primary measurable factors. What if we told you that your breathing is that phantom factor that no one thought of....?

Hot Yoga Club Chico 28.08.2020

Could the timing be any more perfect or imperfect? Whatever the timing it’s relevant and given 2020’s breathing themed events. While we may be stuck indoors, there’s no reason to neglect our ability to breathe. Just slowing down your breathing for just a few minutes a day can calm your parasympathetic nervous system.

You know her as the one behind the scenes. The one who greets you like it’s Christmas Day and hasn’t seen you in a year. She’s our beloved manager, Nikki! They say that if you want something done, give it to the busiest person you know. A lot of what makes the magic happen is because of the carefully thought out decisions made by Nikki. Next time you see her let her know what you appreciate about her contribution to the team!

Naturally, we are geared toward negativity biases, so it actually takes more work to rewire our brain to move into the opposite direction. In the long run however, those synapses reroute and it become a natural habit that can be effortlessly cultivatedthe Dow feels natural. Until then, we’ll need reminders along the way, which is why this month we bring you this easy read that gives you a step by step how-to guide. In learning to turn this a practice to habit, it will build up the section in your brain that feels more positive and more calm.

- The hardest thing we can do sometimes is have patience for others and ourselves while in the throes of feeling impatient. These days it can be very hard to remain patient and open when everything around us feels uncertain and directionless. Sometimes it can feel like every attempt to adjust through challenging circumstances while being expected to remaining positive about it is exhausting. Remember this... when you’re feeling like you’re at your limit, have patience in realizing that you are doing the best you can with what you have been given. This perspective will make it easy for you when need to have it for others. You are doing so much better than you think.

The lost art of writing a kind note is not lost. In fact when you take a pen to paper you stimulate neural activity similar to meditation. And when done in love, gratitude, and appreciation for the recipient, it stimulates the release serotonin. And if that wasn’t enough, the receiving person on the other end will make the same neural connections and release those very same chemicals. In this case, everyone wins. Right now more than ever, it’s important to keep those bonds strong. Write to someone who you haven’t connected with in a while!

A cluttered space can be overwhelming suffocating. With all this talk centered around breath it makes us wonder, where else are we feeling suffocated? Cleaning out small spaces is helpful and a good place to start. If your goal is to clean out the kitchen cupboards but it feels beyond overwhelming, start with the junk drawer. Then come back the following day and move to one cabinet. Those little milestones not only make it easy to tackle a large project but you get little hits of dopamine along the way.
