Throwback Thursday! Taking it back to the 2016 during the first ever opening night of a Very Chico Nutcracker performance at Laxson Stunning new costumes, brilliantly artistic backgrounds, and a fun and unique local twist on the classic version of The Nutcracker! Were you on stage, or in the audience that evening?!

Our FIRST ever #WhereAreTheyNow post Meet Tirza Panunto Tirza was a dancer with CCB for 9 years! In 2019, she attended the @sacballet Summer Intensive Program and was offered a trainee contract. Tirza moved to Sacramento her junior year of high school, and she now trains Monday thru Saturday with other trainees and professional members of the Sacramento Ballet Company. Now in her second year as a trainee with Sacramento Ballet, she has been fortunate enough to participate in monthly shows even during the pandemic. Dual enrolled in both high school and community college courses, her plans after graduation are to attend a college with a ballet program (she has already been accepted into several ballet programs!) and major in both dance and biology. Her ultimate goal?? To become a professional ballet dancer!

From our Artistic Director, Deborah Jorritsma: Our Chico Community Ballet dancers stood together last night in solidarity to express their passion and support for the necessity of the arts in our lives and their appreciation and respect for our performing venues like our beautiful theater, Laxson Auditorium, which they have the opportunity to perform in! What amazing young dancers and human beings we get to work with!

Tonight from 9 p.m. to midnight, Chico Performances joins #WeMakeEvents, a national coalition of performing arts and live events organizations, in #RedAlertREST...ART to raise public and media awareness in support of the live events industry that has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 shutdowns. Laxson Auditorium on the Chico State campus will be illuminated with red lights to draw attention to the impact the of the pandemic shutdowns that completely halted the industry. See more

Last week we celebrated our graduating senior, Adelaide! If this were a typical year, our directors would have gone to Chico High School’s Senior Awards Night to present Addie with her Chico Community Ballet Service Award and, at the end of the season, our dancers would have presented Addie with her beautiful scrapbook they put together. Well we couldn’t follow our normal traditions, but we all agreed this was a perfect way to show our love to this amazing young woman! Addie has graced the stage with us for the past 11 years and has become a treasured member of our family- congratulations Addie!
