Taking time for chai Strong, rich chai, boiled nicely. It fills the house with the smell of cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg. Watching the chai cook so it doesn’t boil over gives me the chance to stop and breathe and wake up, before I check my phone and let in the rest of the world.

It’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We want to acknowledge that we live and brew chai on Mechoopda Maidu land. This tribe is not only an important part of this community’s history, but a vital part of its present and future.
