Meet Beth! Beth joined us in August of 2020 as a veterinary assistant/customer service representative and brought with her 10+ years of experience in the veterinary field. She began her veterinary career as a volunteer at a local animal shelter before working as a veterinary assistant in animal hospitals. Beth enjoys working with animals because it can be very challenging, but it is always rewarding. She enjoys learning new things every day especially as advances in medi...cine are constantly occurring. Her two cats, Simon (who only has 1 eye!) and Dracula, keep her on her toes. When she's not at work, Beth likes to go on hikes to collect crystals or listen to live music. You may also find her scaring people at the haunted corn maze during Halloween season! . . . #chicoanimalhospital #cah #chicoca #veterinarian #chico See more

What do you do if your cat or dog is choking? Chews, toys and miscellaneous household items can quickly become choking hazards for our pets. Every second counts when your pet is choking, so acting fast is vital to ensuring their safety. Restrain your pet first. If your cat or dog is choking, then they likely will be struggling. This can result in further harm so it is very important to secure your pet first. Determine where the source of choking is coming from. Is your pet ch...oking because of something wrapped around their neck or is there something in their mouth/throat? If there is a cord around the neck, carefully cut it with scissors. Sometimes pets will get their collar caught on a handle and this can cause choking. Lift your pet to ease the force on their neck and unclip the collar. Internal choking calls for a different approach. Open your pet's mouth to see if you can dislodge the item with your finger. If you cannot see anything, do not reach into their throat as this can push the item further down. You may have to perform the Heimlich Maneuver to dislodge the object. See the photo below for different methods to alleviate an internal choking source. Once your pet is no longer choking do a once-over to make sure there are no wounds as a result of the choking. What can pet owners do to help prevent situations that can result in choking? Breakaway pet collars are great because they will pull apart if too much force is exerted on the clasp. Use a trash can with a lid to make it more difficult to break into. Evaluate your surroundings to look for possibly choking hazards. . . . #chicoanimalhospital #cah #veterinarian #chico

Junior is no amateur when it comes to vet visits. We first met JJ when he broke his leg, but now he's taken to eating things he shouldn't just so he can visit us or at least that's how we like to look at it! Thank you Martha for the hilarious photos!

This year the staff decided to do a haunted house decorating competition since we can't scare - I mean share - our Halloween spirit with clients indoors. We ask YOU to vote for the haunted house you like most! Vote by "liking" OR commenting on the house of your choice.

These are some very lucky pups! Their mom rushed them in when she found they had gotten into her Vitamin D bottle. While vitamins can be great for humans, they can be very toxic to dogs and other animals. All her dogs are doing great now. Hopefully they have learned their lesson not to steal mom's things. Remember to keep your medications and supplements in a spot where your pets can't get to them!

There's nothing like a Nerf war at home with the kids.. Until your dog eats the foam balls! One ball was removed surgically, while the second one graciously given to us by the patient in a stool sample. The pup who ingested these is doing great now
