Did you know that? The harp is one of the oldest musical instruments. In fact, one of the earliest discoveries of musical instruments shows an instrument that ...resembles a harp depicted on cave paintings dating back to 15,000 BC. in France. It is thought that the first harps were derived from the hunting bow, in fact the string stretched between the two ends of the bow produces a sound. In Egypt, some of the earliest images of arched harps come from tombs of pharaohs dating back about 5,000 years. These hieroglyphs show that many harps existed in Egypt: several paintings of arched harps were found in the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses III (1198-1166 BC). In the New Kingdom (Egyptian Empire), harps measured up to 2 meters high with 19 strings and were played while sitting or standing. See more
