Happy Thanksgiving! Because of You: Dreams are Achieved! Boundaries are Broken! Lives are Changed! Each year the Crafton Hills College Foundation hosts a fundraiser to support CHC. This year, the annual spring fundraiser was canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, the needs of CHC students and the college continue regardless of the pandemic. The Foundation is supporting a year-end donation effort, themed Because of You, to support the $1 Million Endowment F...und campaign. Increasing the CHC Foundation’s Endowment Fund by $1 Million provides the Foundation an additional $50,000 every year in perpetuity to continue to meet the current and future needs of the college, regardless of what the future brings. This effort assures funding is available for innovative programs and services that benefit students and increase student success. GIVE BIG! You can help! Your year-end contribution is enhanced by the 2020 CARES Act that allows up to $300 in charitable donations to a non-profit (CHC Foundation qualifies) for those who do not itemize their taxes. Additional provisions allow those who itemize to deduct donations up to 100% of their adjusted gross income (AGI), vs. 60% previously. And Corporations can also deduct higher amounts for cash gifts to public charities up to 25% of taxable income, up from the previous 10% limit. Training first-responders is a vital part of the Crafton Hills College curriculum. Emile Diaz De Leon received a scholarship that reduced his financial needs and allowed him to focus on his CHC Fire Academy studies. His confidence grew during the long days of physical training, classes, drills, and exams. Achieving his ultimate-goal, Emile is now a Firefighter/EMT, proudly serving as a first-responder. Your donation matters! My eyes welled up with tears and I knew my hard work was paying off. Receiving a scholarship was truly a godsend. Emile Diaz De Leon ’18 To donate and for more information about the CARES Act donation provisions visit: www.craftonhills.edu/endowment Tax ID 23-7314077. The Crafton Hills College Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the current tax laws. Please discuss this with your tax advisor. CHC Fire Academy Donates Engine to YHS In January 2020, the CHC Fire Academy began making arrangements to transfer ownership of a 1991 Beck Fire Engine to Yucaipa High School for use in its Fire Science Program. The engine, a gift to CHC in January 2017 from the City of Yucaipa, CA - City Government and CAL FIRE, is a first for the YHS program. Fire Science courses taught at the high school articulate to the college so that students can receive credit for Crafton’s Fire 100 a...nd 101 classes upon completion of similar classes at Yucaipa High. The Crafton Hills College Fire Academy received two engines from the City of Fontana, CA - City Government earlier this year, making the donation to YHS possible. Although the transfer was approved in January, the delivery of the engine was delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Josh Simon, a CHC Fire Academy Alumnus who teaches the fire courses at YHS, received the pink slip and drove the engine to its new home on September 3, 2020.

To ensure public health, SBCCD announces online learning and remote working will continue through the Spring 2021 semester September 11, 2020 To the San Bernardino Community College District Community:... We write to you today with a full appreciation of the delicate time we live in: the ongoing crisis of COVID-19 and the recent wildfires that have displaced families from their homes, polluted the air we breathe, and damaged our forests. To those who have been directly affected or lost a loved one, our thoughts are with you. As we confront these challenges, we are reminded that we are in this together. We are especially thankful to our first responders, health care providers, and countless students, faculty, and staff who have extended a helping hand to those in our community who need it most. While the timing may not seem ideal, we have an important update to share with you about the Spring 2021 semester. After careful consideration of COVID-19 rates in San Bernardino County and an expected flu season this winter, our campuses will continue with online learning and remote working for the academic term that begins January 19 through May 25, 2021. We will continue conferring with public health officials and make an announcement by April on how we will deliver classes in Summer 2021. While we are just a few weeks into the Fall 2020 semester, our announcement today is meant to help you prepare and plan for a healthy and successful academic year. A limited number of classes will continue taking place in-person, and essential work will continue on campus while following public health guidance. We are all eager to return to campus life, and when we do, we must do so carefully and safely. We have a plan in place to guide how and when we will return. Click here to learn about it. As you know, both COVID-19 and flu illnesses can spread from person-to-person, mainly by droplets made when people cough, sneeze, or talk. Let us continue doing our part to keep each other safe by wearing our masks, washing our hands, and keeping our physical distance. Our actions save lives. If you or someone you know needs financial help, food or housing assistance, or mental health support, we are here to help. At Crafton Hills College, visit https://www.craftonhills.edu//online-student-ser/index.php At San Bernardino Valley College, visit https://www.valleycollege.edu//360-resource-cent/index.php You may also access resources from the County of San Bernardino at sbcovid19.com or the State of California at covid19.ca.gov.
