Last week, Allie Talucci and our OE Instructors worked with our 7th and 8th graders virtually. We incorporated online and offline segments to continue to foster and build community. We introduced the 7th graders to OE skills and built on the 8th graders' previous experiences in the OE progression. We captured some photos of our Zoom classrooms including students creating their own maps, and reflection/ solo activities including one inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.
Eli | Ultra Running in Navajo Nation As a rancher growing up in the rugged northeast corner of the Navajo Nation with no electricity or running water, Eli Neztsosie learned through years of work what it meant to rely on discipline and endurance. Now he relies on these same skills, running long distances striving every day, in his words, to be better than he was the day before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l16tuTE99vA
Brothers of Climbing How can you be what you can’t see? Mikhail Martin, co-founder of Brothers of Climbing said, I literally typed, ‘Are there black climbers?’ in Google someone said, ‘black people don’t climb.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LWq5s-s4pY&feature=youtu.be

For the Gwich'in people who live in communities surrounding the refuge, the changes could be devastating. The tradition of hunting caribou goes back generations and is an important food source. Trump’s efforts could threaten this way of life in the amount of time it takes to set up an oil rig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiY29OWw19o&feature=emb_logo
Becoming Ruby | Inclusion, Bikes and Hand-Drawn Heroes If you can’t find a hero, create your own; for mountain biker, skier and artist Brooklyn Bell, that hand-drawn hero was a comic character named Ruby J. Using Ruby as a role model, Brooklyn set out to live like her, breathe like her, be unapologetically black like her, finding her own identity in a mix of dirt, snow, art and inclusion. #blacklivesmatter #diversifyoutdoors #optoutside #blackoutdoorlivesmatter... https://www.youtube.com/watch
