B"H *One Minute of Torah: Tetzaveh* Sometimes, life just crushes us. And then what?... This week’s Torah portion of Tetzaveh [You shall command] provides the answer. And you shall command the children of Israel, says G-d to Moses,and they shall take to you pure olive oil, crushed for lighting, to kindle the lamps continually. The Menorah lamps were used to light up the world outside. As representation of the role of the Tabernacle (and later, the Holy Temples) the Menorah lights shone forth holiness and revealed G-dliness until the souls of all were illuminated with inspiration and purpose. The only oil that was permitted to be used in the Temples was pure oil crushed from olives. Not gently squeezed but crushed, in a mortar. Apparently, igniting souls can only be done with the purity achieved after being crushed. When life crushes us, it’s only to bring out our best and purest - so that we can bring out the best and purest in others. Have a wonderful week!
