This project was such a meaningful experience for our Sr FYB dancers. Thank you Kelly Rivard for your inspiring choreography & video direction. This was the fir...st time that our company members were able to dance without masks. Almost all of the added revised choreography for dancing in the sand and re-staging was done virtually. I am so proud of our dancers for pushing themselves & showing their passion. Thank you to the City of Huntington Beach for granting our permit. The ocean waves, birds flying in the distance and surfers riding the waves brings an extra element of magic to this video. We are very excited to announce a NEW 4-week session of Adult Hip-Hop classes beginning Tuesday, November 3rd. The class will be from 8:00-9:00pm at our studio for in-person participation and on Zoom for those that prefer a virtual class. Cecchetti USA joins the wider dance community as we all share in the loss of the Doris Duke Theatre at Jacob's Pillow. We feel a deep connection to this venue,... remembering the times when Margaret Craske, a protégé of Maestro Enrico Cecchetti, shared his legacy with students gathered for summer programs. We acknowledge with gratitude the opportunities provided to the performers who have graced this stage. We appreciate the experiences created for audience members who have gathered there to view dance in its many forms over the last three decades. We extend our condolences as well as spiritual support to the entire staff of Jacob's Pillow as they work to rebuild a world-class theatre for the performing arts in the inspiring setting of the Berkshires. Today we are celebrating Black Americans from our dance culture. In order of appearance: Josephine Baker - an American-born French entertainer, French Resistance agent, and civil rights activist. Surely the day will come when color means nothing more than the skin tone, when religion is seen uniquely as a way to speak one's soul, when birth places have the weight of a throw of the dice and all men are born free, when understanding breeds love and brotherhood. Alvin Ailey ...(@alvinailey) - an African-American dancer, director, choreographer, and activist who founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Dance is for everybody. I believe that the dance came from the people and that it should always be delivered back to the people. Debbie Allen (@therealdebbieallen) - an American actress, dancer, choreographer, singer-songwriter, director, producer, and a former member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. In places in the world where we don't speak the same language, or even understand that we pray to the same God, we dance to the same beat, that is the ONE." Misty Copeland - an American ballet dancer for American Ballet Theatre, one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United States. On June 30, 2015, Copeland became the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in ABT's 75-year history. "My body is very different from most of the dancers I dance with. My hair is different than most I dance with. But I didn't let that stop me. Black girls rock and can be ballerinas."
