Jim Franz Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 Goes To... ROSEMARY REILLY The City of Alameda just announced the 2020 Community Service Awards Honorees. All nominees and winners are quite remarkable Alamedans who make our community the best place to live. ... We are excited to announce the Jim Franz Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Alameda goes to Rosemary Reilly! In 1990, Rosemary was asked to step in as executive director of Alameda Meals on Wheels on a "temporary" basis. Thirty years later, on May 31, 2020, Rosemary retired, acknowledged as the moving force behind much of the success of the program and the vital role it plays in Alameda today. Praise for her accomplishments has been generous, garnering her a Mayor's Proclamation, which, in part, read: "Rosemary has grown Alameda Meals on Wheels into a vital community resource, and whereas Rosemary Reilly is truly a community treasure, we wish to thank her profusely for her service to our community." "Rosemary is a remarkable woman that has enhanced the lives of thousands of our Alameda neighbors over many years and has with her hard work, dedication and compassion been responsible in shaping Alameda Meals on Wheels into the organization that it is today," said AMOW board member and past president Ed Kofman. ABOUT ALAMEDA MEALS ON WHEELS Alameda Meals on Wheels (AMOW) is a locally-funded, seven-day-a-week program that has been delivering hot, nourishing meals to Alameda residents since 1973! Each day, holidays included, their cheerful and caring volunteers deliver a mid-day meal to more than 140 Alameda residents of all ages that need their assistance - whether due to recent surgery or hospitalization, because they aren't able to get out to grocery shop, or because they can't cook their own meals. Their subscribers pay on a sliding fee scale, based upon their ability. Scores of volunteers provide the delivery system for the meals that are prepared daily by the kitchen staff at Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. These volunteers often provide the only personal contact and conversation their homebound recipients have on a daily basis.
