Like so many other things impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Halloween is going to look a little different this year. Marin Health and Human Services officials recommend reducing contact with those outside your household and staying in the family social bubble. Carving pumpkins, having a candy hunt (think Easter egg hunt) in your house or yard, attending a virtual Halloween costume contest, or having a scary movie night can be good alternatives to the traditional trick-or...-treating or Halloween carnival gathering. However, we do know that teens will still want to gather with groups of friends and classmates to celebrate Halloween. Parties are strongly discouraged this year. We also want to remind both parents and teens that the #SocialHostOrdinance (SHO) is being enforced in every city, town, and unincorporated area of Marin County. The ordinance holds the host responsible at any party or gathering where underage drinking takes place. The responsible host can be an adult or a minor. Central Marin Police have a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking and a Social Host Ordinance citation will be issued each time a violation occurs. We hope that everyone will celebrate a fun, although different, Halloween in a safe and healthy manner. Happy Halloween!! This month we‘re proudly wearing our pink shoulder patches in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and work to raise funds for the MarinHealth Breast Health Center with our Pink for Cure t-shirt sales. Now we’re looking ahead to Movember, Men’s Health Month. Movember, also known as No Shave November strives to bring a focus to men’s health issues, in particular to awareness and treatment of prostate and testicular cancer. We are raising funds for the Marin Pro...state Cancer Information and Support Group. This not-for-profit group has supported men in Marin for over 25 years. They meet every week, ensuring that no man will have to wait more than seven days to receive support and information at one of the most challenging times in his life. Please join us and the Central Marin Police Officers Association by purchasing a CMPOA Movember shirt. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Marin Prostate Cancer group. Please help us support this important cause! Purchase window closes November 5th. https://bit.ly/2FYy9zo See more

We are aware of new messages circulating on social media announcing a concert and peaceful protest event planned for Friday, June 5th at Redwood High School in Larkspur. We have spoken with Redwood’s Principal and the District Superintendent and they told us that no events are approved or will be allowed to take place on school property. The entire campus remains closed in compliance with Marin County’s Public Health Order. Please do not show up for this event. You will not be allowed on school grounds and will be turned away. If you are the event organizer, or know how to contact them, please contact Redwood High School or the Central Marin Police Authority.

When you hear Hi-Lo, its time to go! We now have an additional way to notify our communities about the need for immediate evacuations during an emergency. All of our marked police vehicles have been equipped with new Hi-Lo sirens. The distinctive 2-tone siren will only be used for evacuation notifications in an extreme emergency. This is one more way for us to notify you during an emergency and does not replace other alerting tools like Alert Marin and Nixle.... Please take a moment to watch the video and become familiar with the sound so that you can be better prepared. We hope we will never need to use it, but the Hi-Lo siren means only one thing - evacuate immediately! Please share.

In recognition of National Police Week and in honor of Santa Rosa Police Det. Marylou Armer we participated in the Run Fierce Fallen Officers Challenge. The challenge was to run a 5K, 10K, or 85 miles to raise awareness and funds for surviving families. The 85 miles represents the average number of police officers who die in the line of duty each year. Our CMP team of 30 athletes ran #blueformarylou and finished the Challenge with a total of 580 miles! Special shout out to our SRO Jeff Peterson who led by example and did the 85!! A fund to support Marylou's family has been established by PORAC (Peace Officers Research Association of California) at https://porac.org//santa-rosa-police-officer-mary-lou-arm/ .
