We would like to congratulate our Campus Compact Community-Engagement Student Fellows, Griselda Camacho and Janneth Gil Magana, for their film on voter rights and voter suppression becoming a semi-finalist in Civic Life Project's Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge! The 19th Amendment gave white women the right to vote in 1920; and it was another 45 years until the 1965 Voting Rights Act gave women of color the right to vote. Yet there are practices in place even today that ...make it difficult if not impossible for many groups of people, usually people of color, to exercise their voting rights. Today is #WomensEqualityDay. Please help us share their message about voter rights, how far we have come in our efforts towards equality in our country, and how far we have yet to go. Support our student fellows by voting on their video here https://civiclifeproject.org/democracy-2020/ and please be sure to check out the other inspiring semi-finalist entries in the Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge. Their film is titled A Threat to Our Democracy. Voting ends August 31st at 9:00 p.m EST. Link to video in our bio See more

Voter suppression is an issue that affects many Americans today. In many states across the country voting is made an unnecessary hassle that affects largely African American and Latinx voters. Voter suppression can take many forms. There are states that suppress thousands of votes through voter registration issues, strict ID and ballot requirements. There are also many people living in this country who are unable to vote yet are still affected by the politics put in place. Th...at is why we voters have a duty to vote responsibly and consistently; to give a voice to not only ourselves, but to those who are not allowed a voice. Join us in congratulating our CEC California Campus Compact Youth Voice ~ Youth Vote Spring 2020 Student Fellows, Griselda Camacho and Janneth Gil Magana, on their impactful video on voter suppression/voter rights and for the completion of their fellowship! Support the fellows by voting for their video entry in the Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge! Volunteers around California are needed to wash, iron, cut, or sew cloth masks. If you can sew, great! If you can't sew, but would still like to help, they need volunteers who cut fabric and wash and iron the masks. #sacstatevolunteers #masks4millions Link in bio

GERO 101 students have expanded Eskaton’s capacity to serve more of the community with the Eskaton Telephone Reassurance Program. Each week students receive a call list from the Eskaton Telephone Reassurance program and they call to check in on older adults in the greater Sacramento Community who are isolated at home. Students have found this to be quite rewarding as they are able to support older adults and provide connection during these challenging times. Some students n...ow have regulars who they call every week to provide support and connection. GERO 103 students use Skype or FaceTime to video chat, or make weekly phone calls to their resident partners at Chateau River’s Edge. Students were also asked to send in the mail or drop off cards and letters to their residents weekly to continue consistent contact with their elder partners. The gerontology students have expressed satisfaction in providing some level of contact to their resident partners who are not allowed to have visitors at this time. #HornetsHelpingOut
