Hi everyone, just because we've closed this site of the Catalyst Center for Urban Sustainability, it doesn't mean it's the end! We still have TONS of other ways that you can get involved. Be sure to "Like" Catalyst's official FB page here! Join us as we continue to create "centers of community" all over the city!
It's official. We turned in the keys back to Hancock University on Friday. This blank canvas is now theirs again. Let's hope they choose to use it not only for their own use but for the good of their neighbors.
Be sure to check out Catalyst's year-end newsletter! It's short. http://hosted-p0.vresp.com/549020/4901dc0775/ARCHIVE
Everyone, please extend your good thoughts and prayers for the families, teachers, and community members in Newtown, Connecticut as they process and deal with the horrific shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. So many children being killed is incredibly heart-breaking!
Hi everyone, we've got just 3 more days at our current location. We're having a FIRE SALE of bikes, bike parts, furniture, computers, printers, and other stuff that we're not taking with us. Come on by for a deal! The FIRE SALE will be this THURS & FRIDAY 9am - 5pm and this SAT 9am - 3pm.
This will be our final week at our current location. If anyone can help pack and load and unload stuff, please let us know!

Check out this video that David Geathers did on the Catalyst Center. If you have any leads for where we can relocate to, please let us know! Just like Jewell says in the video, it's not about the space. We can do what we do any where. We can be catalysts any where. With a bigger space, we can do bigger things. Hopefully you've seen yesterday's post about Hancock University asking us to move out in the next several weeks. We're CLOSING the Catalyst Center for Urban Sustainabil...ity at the end of this week. Thanks to David for doing the video! http://youtu.be/hyRr583sjuI
Although we recently had a successful grand opening for the Catalyst Center for Urban Sustainability, Hancock University has asked us to relocate our operations in the next several weeks because they would now like to utilize their space for their own purposes. Therefore, WE WILL BE CLOSING at the end of this week! We know that we are both creative and resilient and we will continue to create spaces that help people and groups to connect, collaborate, and share resources! We welcome anyone interested in joining our team to help us to move and to find alternative locations. Contact [email protected]. Thank you all for the support!
Another way we sustain our community is by connecting with others around our shared interests. If you're interested in having fun, seeing live bands, looking at art, making stuff with your hands, all while connecting with local conservation groups to create a healthier environment; then COMMUNITY CONECTTOME has a win win opportunity for you to do all of that this Sunday.
The Long Beach Time Exchange is one of the ways that we sustain our community. This project is based on the belief that all of our time should be valued equally and that everyone brings something to the table, regardless of socioeconomic status. If you would like to learn about some of the unique ways we share skills with one another please feel free to join us this Sunday: https://www.facebook.com/events/522549877755961/... Did I mention this is FREE?! It's FREE I tell you! You can also invite a friend and bring a dish to share. Nice people + building a stronger community by helping each other + food + FREE = Good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Join us at the Catalyst Center for Urban Sustainability for an informative workshop about solar energy! We will look at the growing importance of renewable energy, how we can help "grow" solar energy in our communities, and how to teach our children about the basics of solar power! When: Saturday, November 10, 2012 11:00am - 12:30pm Where: 1730 Long Beach Blvd. Long Beach, CA 90813... Please RSVP to Stella at: [email protected] to reserve your seat at this informative workshop.
A little boy came in to the Free Store today and picked out a jacket. He returned a few minutes later with his mom who was in tears and his brother. The mom sai...d to us "Thank so you much. He really needed a jacket and this one is so nice. Thank you, Thank you!" Then the little brother said to the boy with the jacket "Now we don't have to share. I have one and you have one." See more
