This is a 40 year old implant surrounded by a thick capsule. Over time, the body forms a membrane around an implant (called a capsule) - these are usually very thin and flexible. This patient's implants ruptured, causing her body to form thick capsules around the rupture in an effort to contain the leaking silicone. @klkilleen removed the capsules and implants; replaced volume with new implants and secured an ADM internal bra to prevent this problem from reoccurring. There is a wrong way of removing implants! During an implant removal surgery, it is important to remove the capsules along with an implant because as you see here, symptoms of capsular contracture can still occur even without an implant! This patient had her implants removed from a different surgeon, who did not perform a capsulectomy. This resulted in painful symptoms of capsular contracture, and a visibly inverted breast....
