In honor of National Safe Place Week, we want to spotlight several shelters that are open and safe for youth in need. It takes a community to reach out and support the many teens and families experiencing a myriad of crises from homelessness, to mental health issues, to abuse, and more. We ask you to look out for those youth who might need our support, to repost this post and share these resources, so that those teens and families can get the help they need. As the future begins to look a little brighter with the rollout of the vaccine and reduced numbers of coronavirus cases, many families and individuals are still facing hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We could not be more grateful for the incredible support we have received from Nourishing Neighbors to provide immediate food relief to the many disadvantaged clients we meet daily experiencing food insecurity as part of their oftentimes compounding crises. People like La...ura (name changed for confidentiality), a single mother of three who lost her job due to COVID-19 and recently overcame homelessness. Laura contacted Casa Youth Shelter concerned for one of her daughter's mental health. Arguments between them were escalating and Laura's daughter began exhibiting symptoms of depression. Managing life with unstable income, living in transitional housing, and maneuvering long lines at drive-thru food pantries to put food on the table had taken its toll on the family. Fortunately, our case manager was able to provide some immediate relief to Laura and her family with a few hundred dollars' worth of Albertson's grocery gift cards, allowing them one less thing to worry about as they focused on their emotional and mental health. Laura’s daughter participated in our Residential Shelter Care program, where she received support and guidance through individual, group, and family counseling. Laura also participated in our parenting classes and, in time, was able to secure more stable income. Today, Laura and her daughter continue to participate in counseling and parenting classes through Casa Youth Shelter's aftercare services and have recently reported that their relationship and mental health status have greatly improved. Thank you @Albertsons, @Vons, and @Pavilions Nourishing Neighbors! #CasaYouthShelter #ThankfulThursday #Grateful #NourishingNeighbors #SuccessStory #LosAlamitos #Rossmoor #SealBeach #LongBeach #Lakewood #Cerritos #Cypress #Anaheim #SantaAna #GardenGrove #HuntingtonBeach #OrangeCounty #LosAngelesCounty
We wish to honor all who have served on this Veterans Day 2020, especially Casa Youth Shelter’s founder Myldred J. Jones. In 1942, the wartime call to service led her into the Navy as part of the first contingent of California WAVES to be called to active duty. She served with distinction during World War II and the Korean War, rising to the rank of lieutenant commander, and she was the first female faculty member in the Armed Forces Graduate School of Information. She served... as assistant director of the Department of Welfare-Navy Relief Society and as the naval liaison to both the United Nations and the American Red Cross. Eternally grateful and honored, we thank you for your service, and your vision, Myldred. #veterans #veteransday2019 #usnavy #veteransday #casayouthshelter #longbeach #losalamitos #rossmoor #orange #anaheim #santaana #lakewood #sealbeach #cypress #cerritos #gardengrove #oc #orangecounty #veteransday2020 See more

November is National Runaway Prevention Month. Casa Youth Shelter is proud to be an NRPM partner to help educate and raise awareness of the challenges related to youth homelessness. Homelessness impacts anyone. With 1 in 10 people aged 18-25, and 1 in 30 aged 13-17 experiencing some form of homelessness, there is a good chance that you may know someone without a stable living situation. Certain populations are much more vulnerable, including LGBTQ+ youth, Black and Latino youth, those in foster care, and those who have experienced childhood abuse and neglect. As many of you are aware, our onsite storage unit was burglarized over the weekend, with many of the supplies used most frequently in our shelter stolen. The Los Alamitos Police Department responded and initiated an investigation, and three arrests were made on Tuesday. The individuals arrested are connected with other recent crimes in the area. Thanks to the proactive work of the Los Alamitos Police Department, these people are now off the streets. Unfortunately, while the p...olice were able to recover some of our stolen items, we were not able to recover everything due to items having already been sold or destroyed. We are truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our local community and beyond. Thanks to you, our kids will have everything they need as we near this fast-approaching holiday season. Once again, thank you to the phenomenal Los Al PD and our supporters near and far from the bottom of our hearts! #CasaYouthShelter #LosAlamitos #LosAlamitosPoliceDepartment #LosAl #LosAlPD
We need your help Our onsite storage unit was broken into over the weekend, and many of the supplies taken are items used most frequently in our shelter.
