Welcome back, everyone, from what we hope was a restful and restorative spring break! We're thrilled to announce the complete lineup for our spring 2021 virtual feature series, BORDERS. Kicking off on April 8 with a virtual discussion of Gregory Nava's epic, EL NORTE, this series explores a wide range of borders, borderlands, and frontiers as they are cinematically, politically, technologically, and archivally mediated. Full information on all the events can be found on our website! carseywolf.ucsb.edu/cwc-presents

On March 2, filmmaker Sanjay Rawal and editor Alexander Meillier joined us for a virtual discussion of their new documentary, GATHER, which explores the growing movement among Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political, and cultural identities through food sovereignty, all while battling the trauma of centuries colonial genocide. In conversation with Greg Johnson, Rawal and Meillier discuss the process of making the film, addressing in particular the complicated ethics of documentary representation and the difficult work of healing. Check out the video of their conversation today! https://vimeo.com/520197179

Heartfelt congratulations to Jim LeBrecht and Nicole Newnham, whose wonderful Netflix documentary, CRIP CAMP: A DISABILITY REVOLUTION, has been nominated for Best Documentary by the Film Independent Spirit Awards! Back in October, Jim and Nicole stopped by the CWC (virtually) to discuss this poignant and important film. GATHER is an intimate portrait of the growing movement among Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty, all while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide. In this exciting event, director Sanjay Rawal and editor Alex Meillier will sit down with Greg Johnson, Director of the Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion, and Public Life, to discuss the film. More information and registration available on our website! http://ow.ly/TD7u50DIREv
