We love a beautiful day, here you can see our cover crops, planted in our orchards! Our cover crops help improve overall soil quality and health, suppress winter weeds, reduce erosion, and decrease nitrogen fertilizer inputs. Winter cover crops in orchards will usually consist of: oats, barley, legumes (which fix nitrogen), and mustard (pictured here).

#Meetmemonday: Meet Josh, Sales Manager at Carriere Family Farms. Josh Enos is a fifth-generation California farmer who grew in Glenn, CA. Growing up, Josh always showed interest in the family farm and knew he wanted to secure a career related to agriculture. Upon graduating from Cal Poly - SLO with a B.S. in Agricultural Business, Josh moved to Texas (to follow a girl - now his wife) and worked to expand his business expertise by working in the banking and petroleum indust...ries. In 2016, Josh returned to California to pursue a career within the family farm business. He started at Carriere Family Farms as a sales intern, which ultimately led to his current position as Sales Manager. Josh’s focus is export sales, he also has a passion for creating new products and packaging styles. To un-plug, Josh enjoys backcountry backpacking, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his wife Ali, their dogs, and family.

#Meetmemonday: meet JJ Berndt, our Maintenance Manager for the processing plant. JJ was born and raised in Ukiah, Ca. After graduating from Ukiah High School, he attended CSU Chico where he graduated with a BS in Sustainable Manufacturing, with minors in both Biological Sciences and Management for Sustainability. JJ lived in Chico for 10 years where he met and married his wife. They have been married for 8 years and have a 16-month-old daughter. A year ago, JJ and his famil...y decided to move from Chico to a more rural setting in Willows. In mid-2020 he joined the Carriere Family Farms team as Maintenance Manager. This was a long-time goal of his and Carriere Family Farms was exactly the culture he was looking for! JJ says he is very lucky and happy to be part of such a great team. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with family, camping, trail riding, and restoring antiques.

We are underway with phase 1 of our huller dryer storage construction project! The guys are working hard on welding the foundation for the new dryer bins. We can't wait for more storage.
